Seeking Work: Qualified, Experienced, Police Cleared British Nanny
Hey All,
Lived in Barbados before as a visitor and been there on several holidays. I have many friends and an extended family there. Like a million other people, my dream is to move back to Barbados and work this time however legally only! Its just not worth the risk otherwise.
I think I know all the difficulties, and the ins and outs, of the work permit situation in Barbados so this may be a long shot but here goes. If by some miracle someone, whether that be a family or business ie. agency, can get me a work permit to come and work for them as a Nanny I would be eternally grateful! I can start immediately.
Im led to believe that if someone has a specialist skill or the employer cannot fill the position with someone local, then that is how work permits can be obtained for non nationals. So I'm hoping that my experience, and more importantly my qualifications, may swing that for me. Does anyone know?
About Me:
I’m 25 years old and a UK citizen, speaking native English only. I hold NVQ3 in Early Years Care & Education and have approximately 6 years experience in both paid and voluntary positions in childcare, including senior and room leader positions. I have worked with children of all ages but mainly 0-7 year olds, at both private and government owned settings. My most recent CRB Enhanced Police Clearance in the UK was Nov 09. I also have first aid, food hygiene, manual handling, risk assessment, and some other related qualifications.
I’m currently at Uni studying for a BA Joint Hons in Education and Event Management. I’m flexible in what I’m looking for; either a short contract which I could perhaps do in my Uni holidays or a more long term contract where I would finish my degree at a future date. Although my studies are important to me, I place a higher value on gaining good work experience and taking opportunities as they come. As I believe a great career is based on what you can actually do, not just what’s on paper about what you know in theory. So when I saw this website it was too good of an opportunity to pass by.
• Single

• Good Health
• White British
• Non Religious
• Non Smoker
• Will live in or Out
• Full UK driving licence & willing to drive in Barbados
• Confident swimmer
• Seeking full or part time, day or night.
• Willing to negotiate on salary
• Will care for special needs, elderly, pets & children under 2
• Prefer to clean than cook!
• Will work for single parent family
I can send you my CV and some more information about my skills, ability and experience; if you reply with an email address.
I look forwards to hearing from you.
Many Thanks,

I'm afraid you won't have much chance of getting a work permit to be a Nanny. It's not a job that requires skills that locals don't have. It doesn't fall under the Specialized Skills category.
Best of luck.

Thanks for response. I'm along the same line of thought myself. However I've heard some people have got them for being a qualified Nanny like myself, as there isnt such qualifications available in Barbados for locals to obtain, apparantly. wether thats correct i dont know. Here's to hoping!

Trust me the best thing you can do is concentrate on your education and with your new found qualifications, other more lucrative doors may open up for you at a future date, even in Barbados.
