Until today I had never heard of M P Shiel. In his day a best-selling author, now forgotten. Has anyone out there come across his works ?

Yes interesting - i’ll have a look at one of his books.
As a person - a victorian child abuser - he is not exactly unique in the caribbean, its just that sentances are longer now [unless they are well connected of course.]
Interesting modern historical novel writer - look up sugar money by jane harris, i liked it.
