Life in Kingston
Hi all,
A job opportunity based in Kingston for 2 years has been presented, however I have never visited Jamaica and would love a little advice on what life is like, particularly from a safety perspective. We are a young family with a 2 year old and 5 year old, and my wife is a digital content editor/writer. She would like to do some work whilst there, so any advice on how easy it is for spouse's to get Visas would be appreciated. thanks in advance, Mark |
Re: Life in Kingston
There are some dangerous parts of Kingston, and even the safe parts still warrant proper safety precautions. You can rely on your employers to tell you the best places to live; they may even have a place ready for you to move into. Ask them.
(I live on the next island along. Have visited Kingston, and know people who live and have lived there, but am not right up to date on conditions.) |
Re: Life in Kingston
Theres some interesting reading on tripadvisor on kingston, tourist perspective clearly, but not terribly negative except about certain districts.

Life in Kingston
Jamaica Observer can be read online, a new government is in power since last week. You will live up town, homes and flats/apartments can be in gated communities. Send your child to fee paying school, they wear uniform. Most hotels in New Kingston. 2 cars as you drive everywhere! Good luck.

And, last time I was in Kingston, the rule was: Always have your car windows up and locked!
