What should I bring??
Hi all
Im beginning to become a regular on here during my research!!
Here is the background: Husband is St Lucian and all his famiy and friends still live there around The Morne.
My husband has just been given land by his father which is directly to the side of the famiy house. It is being put into husbands name now.
We plan to build on this and then rent it out to locals long term.
I want to live up North around the Cricket stadium where husbands grandfather has land that he sells. We are trying hard to save to move but i dont really have any idea of move costs. We are also going to open our own business when we get there too.
Should I sell all my household furniture and belongings and come over and buy them when we live there or should we pack them all up and ship them over?? I can not find a reasonable priced way to ship them over, but i would much prefere to ship them because they are sentimental!
Would I be better off selling them here in the UK and purchasing again in St Lucia?

PGtips - do you have any contacts in shipping?
I would suggest selling and rebuying here in St Lucia. There are a few nice furniture shops, and a lot of people get furniture hand made too. I have met a lady who did that with her beds and they are lovely!

This has to be done within 6 months of moving to the island and can only be done once. You must inform customs that you are a returning resident, who has not resided on the island permanently in the last 10 years, and you intend to keep car for next 4 years before you can sell it on.
I will check about shipping.

Re: What should I bring??
Id bring your stuff - get a 40 footer, shove in a car and the household goods. IMO you cant buy quality furniture for a decent price in SLU, its much more expensive from what I've seen.
we shipped a 20ft container with no car - was 2500GBP from a comany called Elite I think in Essex. They turned up, packed and shipped it off.
I'm VERY glad we had our things, they've lasted well and the cost of replacing to this standard would have been very expensive.
