5 years & oh bum!
Just made our 5 year anniversary of living just outside of Kamloops BC. Everything has mostly be good, lots of ups & downs with work, life etc., the usual.
However I don't know what I have done in a previous life, but in the last 6 weeks, one has encountered a few "downs" that I thought i'd share with you, for your amusement:
*Family visiting from UK in August, first morning after they all arrived, out on a dog walk and four of us and one of my two dogs were attacked by a big swarm of wasps - welcome to Canada, in-laws!! All in much pain, swelling & lumps fortunately no anaphylactic shock for anyone.
*While family were still here, the following week, we broke down in my 4 year old Hyundai (just out of warranty by 10,000 km), on a road with no cell service. Engine gone. Hyundai actually rolled-over quite easily and offered to replace it out of goodwill (likely so they don't have to contribute to the instigation of a recall of the 2013 Tucson's, as they have had to with the Santa Fe's and Sonata's of the same year). Was without car for 4 weeks.
*Shortly after family left, my dogs and I were skunked (mostly my Spaniel, again) for the first time ever - just awful!! Do you think he still mildly smells of it, a month later - yes! eeuw
*Have been in a provincial govt. job competition for 6 months - yes, 6 months - unfortunately didn't get it (really gutted for many reasons)
*MTBiking a week ago on one of our fabulous Kamloops area MTBike trails - came off bike, landed awkwardly and have a query-torn ACL in my left knee. So, am currently immobile & housebound on crutches, looking at a long wait for a specialist orthopaedic surgeon appt.
So, being an invalid and having to experience the full force of the BC medical system was not the way I had hoped to celebrate 5 years. But, on the plus side, I now have some forced time available and have started to complete our citizenship application...

The only way that I know of to get rid of the skunk stench in to bathe the dog in tomato juice. No kidding, it works. Maybe you, and all dog owners in skunk country for that matter, should keep a few cans on hand for possible future use. Do it as soon as it happens. As I said, it works.
Congrats by the way.

I think he would try to lick off the tomato juice! I had heard of that though...

I occasionally hear the odd accent now and again when I'm out shopping, but it's difficult to tell if they are residents or on holiday.
Whereabouts did your dog get skunk'd by the way? I mean the area of Kamloops, not the location on the dog!

Yeah it would be interesting to see how many Brits have moved to Kamloops over the past 10 years or so.

Would be interesting yeah, we probably know 8 to 10 couples/families in town.
It happened just outside of Kamloops at Pinantan Lake, where we live. I was halfway into my MTBike ride, it was gross and difficult to stay up wind of him on our way home 🤢

That's rough and even worse that it all happened when your family was visiting, I'd imagine they have a very poor impression of Canada living now!

Ha ha, the car breaking down and the swarm-welcome were when the were visiting, everything else was after. Although it was really quite Smokey due to the wildfires everywhere, thanks goodness it didn’t spoil their fun. They want to try it in the winter next!
