Reflections of a three-year Caniversary
Interesting times, gotta say the three years over here have flown by, even the 3 years before that researching and waiting....it's gone by so quick !
Random thoughts, musings, and some warbling stuff: Happier & more fulfilled than ever before in my entire life Healthier and more active than ever before Doing (good/exciting/interesting) things I never dreamed of More friends that ever and crazy social scene Made some friends/lost some friends - happy as Larry whoever he is/was Travelled and explored BC as per relocation plans Really enjoying the BC lifestyle Officially recognised as an "honorary redneck" by buddies and bro's. Made a nice comfortable home and gone through an economically worthwhile renovation program Career has been interesting, ups/downs but learning and applying myself all the time Discovered the reality of the unpredictable and insecure NA work culture Found out that there's more to (career) life than money Travelled to Seattle, San Fran, Vancouver, T.O on business - that scale of travel never happened in the UK Lived a full portion of the North American lifestyle, trucks, bling, leisure, etc Discovered a lot about myself including flexibility, adaptability, passion, energy, desire, motivation, ability to learn and adapt, etc Realised I have little desire to travel/vacation outside of my little world of BC Realised that I could probably make a go of it anywhere, apart from Botswana, Iqaluit, perhaps the UK Never going back - not even in a casket Not interested in the "old country" and it's associated miseries Actively involved (as a founder member and visionary creator) in niche voluntary scene - albeit somewhat of a self-interest group Proved that you are totally in control of your destiny and to think otherwise will result in failure Struggled to overcome difficult odds and challenges but proved that determination and desire to 'make it work' sees you through Fully integrated, current social circle includes one British expat couple only Don't miss UK, anything from it, any news about it or anything it has/had to offer This is "home' - wherever you try to make it home, it will be so - fill it with warmth and love and comfort = happynezz //etc Not intended to come across as "bweh, just another gloating smug successful migrant" - just very happy with life. Congratulations Rich. It was our 3yr Caniversary last week too, and I can certainly empathise and see similarities in your musings to our own period settling in here.
