In our family my OH doesn't need to as he is old enough, and my younger son doesn't cos he is young enough ..... so it's just me and elder son.
...... I should get onto that; been here over three years now!

Have you not applied? If you are over 55 years you don't even need to take the exam!

So your OH still has to do the paperwork and can skip the test.....right? I think the test would be the most fun unless you go to one of the swearing in ceremonies!

10 years, still consider going back to old Blighty from time to time.

19 years next month. I still hate winters, last too long, and am really not sure I want to retire here. But where would one go? Must be damn hard getting the walker/zimmer frame to function properly in the bleeding snow Still manage to clear up the snow after a storm but it does get harder the older I get

I'm with you on that one Luckyone. Had always intended to go back at some time, but life/fate put genuine obstacles in the way, and now I'm too old to return, though I'm still healthy at this point. Clearing the snow is a chore I would rather not deal with, but as long as I am able ,I will. I tell myself it is good exercise, and cheap too.

Re: How long have you been here?
Exactly one year today!
We landed at Halifax on a "6 month exploratory visit" according to our visitors permit.
I was lucky enough to have had 2 telephone interviews with a company in Fall River before we sold off most of what we owned and jumped on a plane with 2 suitcases each. The day after we arrived I had a final interview and was offered my job (which I'm still in).
The kids were enrolled in school by late March, we bought a lovely house in April and we got married in our own garden on 31st May 08.
The last year has been absolutely brilliant. The kids have settled in so well, and our eldest never wants to go back to Ireland. He's so many friends here and is involved in Army Cadets in Enfield and absolutely loves it. Our daughter has playdates every week, and does ballet and singing/dancing classes so she's in her element.
Both Steve and I have each had a short trip back to Ireland in the meantime, and in all honesty although we both enjoyed catching up with friends and family, neither of us could wait to come home!
So here's to many more wonderful years in Nova Scotia!
