Its all good auld yin, we have already found a source of good old tasty cheddar cheese...!!
The spray cheese incident was from a fast food joint where I inadvertently ordered a baked potato with broccoli and cheese for lunch... sounded nice... what I got was a baker with raw broccoli and what was clearly sprayed on "cheese product" of some sort...

If you want to find English cheese might I suggest that you try Denningers on Upper James. They have a good selection of cheese in general and I know they carry Wensleydale, Lancashire, double Gloucester for sure. We are also from Ancaster, and haven't had as much luck as you have!
We are 10 months in, and still looking for work! Contemplating moving back sadly! In Dundas, there is also a british shop which sells goods from Britain, you can try there also.

We have thought about it, but it's not practical. I am a teacher, and there are no teaching jobs in Canada at all (not even ONE vacancy has come up for either private or public). I have also applied for business jobs in admin because I have a lot of office skills directly transferable from teaching, but I have yet to hear any feedback at all from any job I have applied for. It's all very frustrating.
I'd be willing to work further out in Ontario, if there were a suitable job, but relocating province would mean reapplying to that province to teach (Alberta) for example, and then waiting again for what could be 6 months to hear back. We just don't have the resources to wait that long.

Hi Midnight,
10 months without work is tricky, its such a great place to be, but nowhere is great without an income. From what I can make out here is all about who you know and showing face and very much more about physical door knocking and persistence to get a job. I was over here I think about 8 or 10 times on business, before I was able to secure my transfer. There is a certain amount of luck too I guess but really its all about hard graft and making your own luck.
I do know another teacher looking for work in the area and also failing, he is now retraining in another skillset, but his wife is working which helps fund. I guess it comes down to whats more important, career or location...
Thanks for the tip on the cheese though... wonder if they have Scottish cheddar... not bothered about the English stuff... Actually have no real issues on the cheese we get from food basics anyway, its just the plastic stuff I hate!
Finally got our PR paperwork through a couple of weeks ago and landed last weekend! Landing was a long boring and stressful experience thanks mainly to two kids cooped up in the car and fighting the whole trip! But its done we are PR's and thats a great feeling!!
Still loving it here - the weather this weekend is just perfection.. speaking of which, I'm away off out to enjoy it!!!

My wife is Canadian, and I have permanent residence now. We already knew that the teaching profession here was oversubscribed and that it would be nearly impossible to find a teaching job, but we were optimistic that If I were to get my OTC (which I have) that other job opportunities in admin work etc would come up, when the teaching route failed. I have applied to quite a few admin jobs now, and not heard anything back which is quite surprising really.
