7 years on April 16

Well, I think I managed to pack quite alot into the last 7 years.

Moved to Vancouver from the UK in 2010 with my long term partner. Fueled by massive enthusiasm and drive to make it here, I managed to score a good job downtown and worked hard to settle in. Then a year later we decided to buy a renovation property and spent 9 months doing it up = break up of relationship and had to move again! VERY stressful.

5 jobs and one move later I'm finally settled in Saskatoon with a wonderful guy and an amazing job. A few years ago I could not comprehend how people live in -35c for a few months of the year, but I do now and it's no big deal :-)

The downers were things I didn't think about and that was getting sick. Pneumonia is common here in people of all ages because it is cold and can get very dusty in summer from forest fires. Then there's the high rates of MS in this province - the highest in Canada. I had some troubles with my health last year which I later found out could be precursors to MS. My doctor advised that the best thing to do for my health is leave (she thinks it is because we don't get enough access to sunshine year round)...so we are heading back to BC when we're ready.

On the plus side I LOVE the nature, the space, the peace, the beauty, the empty roads, the mountains, the ocean and the people. When I stumbled across Rathtrevor Beach on Vancouver Island it was a spiritual moment; I had never seen anything so beautiful and so empty!

I'm definitely staying :-)

Sorry to hear about your health problems, I had no idea MS was linked to sun exposure. I'd have thought in Sask you'd get a lot of sun but I guess it's down to the harsh winters keeping people indoors mixed with a general movement of people spending more time in doors.

With the health issues aside, it's always nice to read a positive experience about a move.

Best of luck to you in BC :)

So sorry to read about your health issues but you have a plan and I have it all crossed that the plan resolves it all.
I hear you on empty Canadian beaches, they are so very soothing on the soul.

Happy Canniversary and good luck in your next steps
