7 weeks and headed home :***(

Re: 7 weeks and headed home :***(
I was just roaming the forum and saw this thread so thought I would add my 2 cents .
There is no way that I would go to all the trouble and massive expense of moving here just to turn around and go back. I do understand what it must feel like... new country, no work, no money.. but you CAN make it work. It is just the interim that you need to be concerned with.
Here are my thoughts:
1. Think outside the box and create some self-employed work for either or both of you: labouring, gardening, sewing, odd jobs, handyman, casual work of any type. This kind of work often pays more than being an employee. Put some adds up on lists and look for ads ther for temp work, odd jobs.
2. Talk to the authorities (Social Services, etc.) to see what if any help they can offer in the interim either in terms of temporary aid or legal advice.
3. Live as frugally as you can... turn the heat down and put a sweater on, cook cheap but nutritious food in bulk, buy only things on sale, use the flyers, eliminate unnecessary journeys, combine errands into one trip, etc. etc. etc. It all adds up.
4. Got to the media... Province, Vancouver Sun, ombudsman and get some publicity., You may need to put your pride aside but this may result in help flooding in.
5. Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm.
When I consciously dropped out of the rat race and came to live on the island here, I have had to do many of these things to survive for the past 10 years. I used to work as a consultant in Vancouver but now work as a gradener, dyer, textile artist and have learnt how to live very frugally.
Remember it's only temporary. Don't give up now. Make it work.
All the best to you all.

I'm sure this is all too late but what about giving the dog away or 'taking it to the vets'? That extra $2800 could have gone a long way.

I'll take that bet, if only on financial grounds that they wont try again without a plan B, and that takes time to save for.
I hope in the long term they do make it back, it seems like they all liked it here, except for the employment situation.
