Also 30 years since Gilles Villeneuve was killed. Slightly more memorable IMO but YMMV. Ferrari had Jacques driving the car in which his father battled Arnoux.

30 years since heading to the South Atlantic 258 British lives lost, friends lost, but not forgotten, 264 veterans have taken their own lives since the campaign. Many survivors still suffer, quite often in silence.

Isn't that slightly irrelevant, even provocative, in the Canniversary forum?

Much more relevant is that 30 years ago this month the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was adopted. Under Trudeau's government with Chretien as the architect and Minister of Justice.

Them wos the days.

What to say?

I suppose a few points of advice:

Quickly learn to avoid Canada's Wonderland.
Never watch Iced Hockey.
Never buy a Ham and Swiss with Honey & Mustard dressing from Timmies.
Only drink Canadian lager when necessary.
Avoid sweet potato fries.
Celebrate the years of Trudeau and his successors.
Lament the ludicrous destructive fools currently in the federal government.
Leave before you retire.

HTH.
Other than the couple of politically slanted points that looks like good advice. You off to gauche caviar land soon?

Caviar comes from Russia mostly and gauche in English means clumsy.

Oh Christ. Can't you understand that someone can be well off financially and still be a dedicated socialist? Do you think perhaps that the the only ways to become well off are inheriting wealth, to screw everyone you work with, or to have no principles at all?

Of course that's not a particularly unusual position to take, however delusional if genuine. I expect projecting anything other than socialist beliefs would be a career limiting move in the university industry.

Ken Livingstone's tax affairs involving the Cayman Islands are an illuminating example of socialist principles.

Sorry to hear about the dog. I'm afraid that I'll be in the same position sooner rather than later. My 13 yr old border collie is slowing down dramatically with semi-crippling arthritis. Ah well, it was good while it lasted (like Canada).

Are you taking the dog with you to France Novo? When are you planning to arrive more fully? Will you 'miss' Canada, as a place or just your friends and famiily left behind? You will have to pay considerably more for Marmite in France than I belive you pay in Canada!
