3 years in Canada
 

I'm really happy to have reached three years as there were quite a few times I thought myself and my family would be heading back to the U.K.

We arrived June 23rd, 2006. At the time I was working for a small, Canadian internet company. Basically, we came over on TWPs (and submitted PR applications in the same month). All was fine initially, but the owner at the time wanted to wind down the company, as his thinking was that he wanted millions of dollars from it as he'd invested $75,000! This didn't help us much as we were on TWPs, and the whole situation was becoming really stressful. The owner kept offering to buy us our airfare tickets back which we didn't want to do, unless there was absolutely no choice.

So, with the company all about to collapse, I was pretty much forced to buy it for a nominal fee and turn it around. Basically so that we could survive until at least until the PR applications were processed, easing a bit of the pressure - actually, when I bought the company, I had to go to the Citizenship & Immigration offices for a couple of hours in order to prove the company would "bring benefit to Canada"... no easy task, but I did have a plan to turn it around.

By the summer of 2008 the position of the company was looking a lot better, and we got word from CHC London that they were speeding up our PR applications. By November we had our PR, however, due to the global, economic slowdown the company wasn't doing too well as many customers either went out of business or lost their jobs. By March this year, I had no option but to close.

So currently, I'm happy to see that we have made our 3 year Canniversary, we hope that there will be a lot more. I'm still looking for work, but our Canada journey has had lots of ups and plenty of downs, but overall it's all been worth it! :beer: (when I can afford it!)

Wow that sounds really stressful - poor you!

good for you hanging in there - good luck on the job front and the rest of you time in Canada!

Good Luck- that sounds like the kind of luck hubby and I have.

He is still looking 6 years later, so I do hope that you find something.

Thank you both for your replies. Sometimes we have to fight on for the things we want, and that's what we had to do.

Well, some good news to share. I landed a job which starts on Tuesday (then a holiday on Wednesday for Canada Day, not bad :)), so things are changing for the better.

6 years is a long time, I'm sorry to hear that, I was getting down after the last few months... has he been coping okay?
