3 years

It was 3 years on Sunday since we arrived in Nova Scotia. The time has just flown by and we are more settled than ever - our youngest has very little memory of Scotland. Financially it has been a struggle but it is gradually improving - at the end of last year I passed the NS Bar so can now officially work here as a lawyer and OH is opening his own business here next month.

Children are happy, even the middle one, who has taken the longest to settle is finally OK. He had a friend over from Scotland in the summer and although I worried it might unsettle him, it did the opposite because his friend was so obviously jealous of everything here - swimming in the lake, the ocean, the hotter summer, etc. We have honestly have never thought about going back to Scotland and I don't think we ever will. I'm thinking about a wee visit sometime, but only to be nosey and reassure myself that Canada is still better:thumbsup:

The trip back used to be called te $1,000 cure. I took it many years ago. Money well spent for me.

Good to hear that you are enjoying your new NS life. Never thought Scotland lacked an ocean or any lakes though!

What a lovely post. How old is your youngest? I hope my first three years don't shoot by too quickly! But I hope that they might have as happy an outcome. Very best wishes.

Scotland just lacks the weather to use them, other than to slosh through in wellies... ;)

Congrats Merry :) Always nice to read a success story and well done on passing your Bar exams!

We move next year to Halifax and love the ties to Scotland and Ireland (being part Irish). On our visit last year saw the marching band at the citadel in all is Celtic dress. Wonderful.

It's good to hear things are going ok for you, big move and mixed emotions I am sure. I think work is the biggest concern for me. I can't spend all my time in the Old Triangle Ale House or at the Halifax Mall in Chapters!

Keep in touch

Our youngest had just turned four when we moved here.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, this forum has been invaluable. Without a doubt the most challenging aspect of moving has been finding the right work for us. It takes a while to really suss out exactly how things are done and not have the wool pulled over your eyes.

Well done for sticking in there and of course for passing the bar. You must have nerves of steel and an iron will.

We move early 2014 to Halifax (don't ask where as we still don't know yet) and have two children up for the move and one totally against. Having children settled must be such a relief and comfort for you. I know I am very nervous about it all.

I am sure it is normal to have second thoughts with such a big move. (I will try to remember to tell myself that :() But to help you feel a little better about it I found you this on the BBC website.

Thanks and keep positive
