3 weeks in Cochrane

Well that's us been here for 3 weeks and we couldn't be happier. We've settled into Cochrane on the outskirts of Calgary and it is a lovely place with everything you could need for daily life and the larger stores and Malls are only a 15 minute drive away for those bigger purchases.

The first 2 weeks were hectic buying all the things we hadn't brought from Scotland but we were blessed with having really good friends here who put us up in their basement until we moved into our rented house. Our belongings, which were shipped out with Clark & Rose, only took 4 weeks to get here which I was most impressed with.

We arrived in Canada on Wednesda, 4 May and our son started school the following Monday. We went into the school the Friday before and as I'd already registered him via email before we arrived, the kids in his class already knew he was due to arrive so they made him feel very welcome, so much so that he started on the Monday with no problem at all and loves it. It's as if he's been going there for months.

The only thing left for us to do is find work. We've been applying for lots of jobs and I've even had an interview so it should hopefully not be too long until we find something.

The weather has been amazing and we feel very fortunate having Skyped home quite a few times to find our family sitting in winter clothing in Scotland as it's been so cold.

So all I can say is that the Canadian experience is working for us at the moment. We've never been happier. We've waited for this for nearly 4 years and it has been so so worth it.

Ooh, that's what we like to hear! We're still swithering (to use a good Scottish word) over Cochrane vs city life in Calgary, but we'll make a final decision when we go over next month. All we need is someone to buy our house!

Welcome to Cochrane! Nice to finally meet you last week. Glad it's all going so well for you guys. I think you spoke too soon about the weather though!

Hi there, welcome, we have been here just a year, and loving, although have spent a fortune! Could you let me know what your line of work is, its just you never know, it may be the same line of work that my husband is in. I used to work in HR and Recruitment, so I might be able to help.
