2 Years

Well it was two years ago yesterday that we arrived at Toronto airport. Still very unsure as to what I think about living here. I think truth to be told, I dont like it. I suppose the good news is, I know its not going to be forever, probabley another 5-6 years. Then back to living in Europe, not the UK though, our plan was always to retire in France, and coming to Canada will enable us to do that, and have a very good retirement. If God spares us - as my old Mum used to say.

My OH is happy here. Think he gets sick of me constantly harping on about "home". Thing is, all our family is in the UK, four grown up children, three grandchildren, with a fourth on the way.

I think knowing that you are not going to stay forever, really effects how you settle in Canada. It was never a dream for us just a means to an end. Although in hind sight, I think not seeing my Grandchildren grow up is a high price to pay.

Congratulations, and interesting thoughts.

I sometimes have mixed feelings about being here (and the awful "spring" weather isn't helping, can we have some warmth and sun - *please*).

For me the thing that swings it is that the kids are happy and settled here. That's not really a comment on Canada vs. the UK in general though, just a result of various things specific to our own circumstances.

If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.

2 years ago well that has gone amazingly fast, great news about another grandchild on the way, it's a very high price to pay, but on the flip side you make the most of it when you do see them Hun xx

Good luck with your plans.

I hope you find a good level of contentment while you are here :)

Yours is an interesting viewpoint. I would guess that most posters on here are the ones moving and taking grandchildren away from grandparents - perhaps with not a full appreciation of how that feels to the grandparents, because they are on their own exciting journey.

On the other hand, you are the grandparent who has perhaps unwillingly moved away, and it's still hard :p

Hey ho - good luck
