2 years in....

Can hardly believe it's our 2nd Canniversary today. We have come a long way (no pun intended), yet the time seems to have gone quickly.

Me and OH arrived with 2 teenagers and a cat to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia - didn't know a soul - in fact only only knew a handful of people in the whole of Canada and none lived in NS!

OH had a job to come to and in our hearts we knew it was the right move and we were going to give it our all. Within days of arriving we had an invite to a house party from a teacher who had heard our family had moved over from Scotland (teacher is Canadian, husband is from the western isles of Scotland). What a great start and welcome to the community we grew quickly to love!

Now 2 years down the road, we all still love it here. Have many many friends, love our jobs and our kids enjoy school and are active in many sports. OH and myself have become big hockey fans, never missing our weekly Junior A games here in town.

Oldest son (18 in a couple of weeks - grade 12 at school) has had a girlfriend for around 9 months  and also works part-time (most kids do). We think he will be heading to Memorial Uni in NFLD after summer because his girlfriend already has a student nursing place there.

We love this town, it's our new home and we are glad that somehow we landed up here. People are friendly, and dispite being only a population of 10,000 there is so much to do.

Can I also add that not one of us has been homeick in all this time. We miss our family and friends but can chat to them by phone or see them online. We came with a realistic view that we would have to network, network, network and get involved in the local community quickly - meeting lots of new people will help any newcomer settle in quickly and make it a smoother transition to the next chapter in your life.

O Canada, my home and CHOSEN land.................

2 years eh!?! well done you lot.....can i also add, on a more sentimental note, that if it wasn't for you and your families fabulous generousity and friendliness, that we wouldn't be living just over the river ( on the nicer side!!!;-)) from you...our first year few by so quickly, and we too have settled in almost like we have lived here forever....loving every second of our lives up here on the northern shore....

I remember your posts about when you first arrived and just wishing it was us - that seems like such a long time ago.

You sound so happy and grounded, I love threads like this.

Wishing you and your family many more years of NS happiness!
