10 years
Cannot believe it is 10 years (and a few days) since we landed in Canada with our 3 children (then aged 4, 8 and 11). Eldest is now in final year of undergrad at UofT, middle is in 1st year at St. Thomas U, NB and youngest is Gd 9 in Halifax. Life here has been amazing. Love where we live. Husband's business thriving (Ocean Optometry, Miller Optometry, Halifax West Optometry). I am loving my work as Crown Attorney in Dartmouth. Never saw myself working as a lawyer again but truly loving my work. Also teaching at Saint Mary's University.
I still miss Scotland. Last went back to compete in Loch Ness Marathon in October last year and since then have "settled" in NS. It took 10 years but finally feel here is home. Could not sell our house in Scotland so have handed over to the bank. No idea how that will turn out but we could not sell despite trying everything. It's a bit of a risk but we had no other option. Not citizens yet but maybe soon.
Wouldn't change our move for the world! Missing some friends but we would not have such full lives in UK.

Re: 10 years
Great to know that you have settled in Nova Scotia.
My daughter lives in Dartmouth, and works in Halifax, so we are there at least once a year, at Christmas. She met a Nova Scotian at UBC, married him in 1999, so she's been over there just over 20 years.
I love where we live, but NS comes pretty close to second

Congrats.
Why not stick around a bit and help promote NS as a counter to the negatives that come up?

Very many congratulations.
I am with Bristol. Please promote Atlantic Canada. It isn’t all doom and gloom as is so often portrayed.
It has all turned out to be a good news story for you...which I am in no doubt is due to your hard work and determination.
It’s not always plain sailing, but can be very much worth it in the end. Well done and continued happiness

This is really positive to hear. We're going to be making the move over soon with young children so hopefully it turns out ok for us too. Congrats on the Canniversary!

I'd like to add in my Congrats!! It sounds like you have really made the effort to become settled in NS and the Atlantic Provinces..well done you!! May the next 10 years be as happy!
I 2nd Bristol's suggestion - it would be lovely to have you posting in our Canada and Maple Leaf forums, bringing a positive spin on what many perceive to be negative places to live!

Congratulations on your 10 year milestone!! Like others have said, its great to hear a positive story of someone settling into their new life and home in Canada and making a go of it! I miss my friends and family in UK too....(its been almost 11 years for me) but lead a fuller life here I feel.
I have visited NS for a holiday, beautiful place, its great that you both have jobs to be able to make a life there. Heres to the next 10! cheers!
