They might just as well wear plaid and be done with it.

This just isn't true at all. A large number people on this forum still have access to UK TV and watch it regularly. I know I do and I say Canadian TV is shit in comparison. Sure most UK TV is shit, but the shit ratio here is much much higher.

For example, I've just watched a documentary series about the history of electricity on the BBC and it was bloody great - informative, concise, and well presented. Nothing on PBS or discovery that I've seen so far comes close to shows like this - in fact pretty much every documentary made here that I've seen seems to be aimed at people educated to 6 year old level.

The problem is, most Canadian TV is American TV. I got cable mainly to watch World Superbikes and Moto GP. The coverage is haemorrhoidal and they have adverts every 5 minutes. Wank.

One should maintain some standards. Or at least try to.

Discovery Channel is particularly bad for that. The narration is childish in the extreme. I could understand it if it were aimed at children, but it's not. And really basic mistakes as well, like insisting that the subject bridge or aircraft carrier or skyscraper is made out of iron (it's steel).

I've always found that a plus when visiting home. I like miserable people, it produces an earthy Schopenhauerian perspective to life. People like that are far more interesting than the saccharine grinning vapidity you get over here.

Sometimes I'd rather have general cynicism than vacuous pleasantries.

Think of its target audience as the broad spectrum of the US, many of which are one step away from thinking the earth is only a few thousand years old probably flat, and the sun goes around the earth..

When you consider the lower 30% of that audience it doesn’t do too bad..

When you consider an elected senator recommended prayer as a solution to global warming, it still has its work cut out and may need to dumb it down a bit more

Isn't it all to do with the belt? If they have a brown belt and brown shoes then it's ok?

If not then I have committed this fashion faux pas myself.......
