IMO, I wouldn't suggest 'visiting places'... instead, go do stuff.
1 - drive the Dempster Highway

2 - go on a week long camping river trip

3 - hike the west coast trail

4 - attend a powwow

5 - go on a cattle drive

Be aware that the Cabot Trail is very heavily traveled and the National Park campsites pack people in very tightly. There's much detailed signage telling one where to place one's feet and how best to bond with the flora. The views are spectacular but it's all very tame and controlled compared with, say, Newfoundland; it's nice but the experience is more Sussex coast than Cornwall coast.

Getting some ideas myself from this thread but I'll echo some previous sentiment.
:: Quebec City - Stay inside the walls if you can, makes the journey to the great restaurants easy and very pleasant. Le Lapin **** (I dunno french for burned rabbit I think) came highly recommended.
:: Niagara Falls - when you get bored of the water head up towards Niagara-on-the-Falls and try out some of the Canadian vineyard tours. Free icewine. Nice.

Beg to differ: Lived in Montreal for 28 years and Vancouver is definitely scarier and wilder; you really have to scour Mtl to find junkies shootin' in the street. Sure it has it's strip clubs and drenching bars, but they are mostly regulated now by Gouvernement du Quebec.Vancouver's Chinatown is . . . well, forget it Jake. It's just Chinatown.
