Young couple curious about canada

Hi we are a young couple(22&24) from uk wanting to move to canada. We have been looking at toronto area, But havent really decided properly on an area yet, We have started looking into visas and was wondering if anyone has done the temporary work visa then after being there for a while applied for the permenent resident one? Is that possible? We was a bit concerned about us not being approved for permanent visa because we don't seem to be in the skilled jobs? We are a dance teacher and a barber.We have a house and decent jobs here in the UK so we have got a lot of researching to do and be 100% sure before we lose everything ðŸ˜ got to start somewhere ay! it's the 'dream' at the minute! ðŸ˜ TIA x

Hi and welcome to BE. Start by having a good read of the Wiki section. It's the fourth tab from the left on the blue bar above. I would suggest you look at the International Experience Canada Working Holiday stream - it's a 1 year open work permit (which can be applied for a 2nd year) and would be ideal for you to test the waters. There is a very limited amount available each year and it will be opening soon, so you need to be prepared.

Yes have been on holiday there before, just love the feel of the place. We need to go there for a few weeks and do some research I think. On the IEC can you then apply for permanent once we have Canadian jobs? Ideally we would like to apply for permanent residency straight away but with us being a barber and dance teacher and both being self employed is it going to be too difficult? Or is it easier to get a temporary one to start with?

Getting an employer prepared to go to the hassle/cost/wait of applying for your LMIA without much experience or specialist skills could be tricky, so I agree with Siouxie and think that an IEC would be far and away your best option.

Do also look in to what your partner would need to do to become licensed in the province you wish to move to, as I believe hairdressing is a regulated trade in Canada.

It might be better for you to start your own thread though, as the advice given to the OP may not have any relevance to your own situation, unless you also happen to be a barber and dance teacher (which would be a heck of a coincidence!).

Sounds like a plan. There's soooo much info on the forum (particularly in the Wiki) that a good read is a great idea so that you can figure out the basics, then do shout with any questions and somebody will always try and help.
