(If their attitudes do change once you say you're an Australian etc, is it negative or positive?)

Who'd have thunked it?
I've been assumed to be an Aussie or South African on many occasions, none of them have been negative experiences.

Being an Australian and contemplating a move to Canada, I'm curious. Do people's attitudes change towards those whom allegedly have an Aussie accent or is this question only used as a conversation starter?

It's usually a conversation starter. Some people will say "so where are you from?"
Please don't take this the wrong way there are loads of Oz folk here, I would say more so than the Brits.
