Have a go, my Mum and Dad emigrated to Canada when I was 18 months old and came back after 3 years, it wasn't for them. You can always come back if you don't like it, you might always regret it if you don't try. Good luck. |
Re: Yipee....I think!!
I feel the same way - we have just got to the medicals stage and am panicking like crazy about whether it's the right thing to do!! But better to try it and know than to be sitting through another wet summer wishing we'd gone for it! It's a great chance for an adventure that a lot of people wish they could have.
Good luck and congratulations on getting that job. |
Re: Yipee....I think!!
Thanks to everyone for your replies.
Think our wobble was because we (ie OH, two boys 9 and 11) have a nice life here and lots of lovely family and friends and all of a sudden the reality of leaving them behind became very real and a bit scary! Think we are back on track now by remembering all the reasons why we were exploring a move to Canada in the first place. So.....yipee it is!! |
Re: Yipee....I think!!
Wish I could come too Debz congrats best of luck.
By the way how did you get a job offer over there would be very interested in knowing. |
Re: Yipee....I think!!
Congrats! You have to try! What's the worst that can happen? You hate it? You go back home again!! Much better than never trying. I speak from experience here. Came to the Caribbean 6 years ago - hasn't worked out how we wanted it, but I wouldn't change the fact that we tried! At the risk of using a cliche - you go for it!!
Good luck honey - but I really don't think you'll need it. I'm sure you'll be fine!! Lisa. |

However you WILL regret it if you don't. If you hate it you can always go back.

Maybe I look at it from a difference perspective because occasionally life is not all rosy and perfect. There are enough tales of woe on this site to confirm this. The worse that could happen is that you could mess up your relationship, you could put yourselves backwards on the properly ladder by 10 years, you could lose $50,000 in the blink of an eye, you could get so terribly homesick or lonely that you won't get out of bed. You could end up with an unfulfilling job that pays the bills but drives you to distraction and saps you of your will to live - or may not even pay the bills. Or not even find a job at all. (I'm not talking about me, by the way - but have had glimpses into enough lives to confirm all of the above). The opposite to all of this is true of course!! You could find nirvana and live happily ever after. And many do. And many of them don't post on here ;) But be sure that the reasons you give yourself to move will hold true once put under a bit of pressure. Do not under-estimate the ties of close family and friends. And let me tell you - the worse that could happen is limbo land - where the decision to return is harder than the one to come in the first place. I don't know why this is, but it just is. Here endeth my sermon :o :p |

Re: Yipee....I think!!
Hi Debz,
I know how you feel! We upped and left our good life in the UK to come here - and it didn't work out the way we'd planned, but there's no way I can regret the experiences and lessons it's taught us. I'd still do it again. Friendships / relationships don't necessarily change. Some will - some can't be maintained over long distances, but I'd rather say 'tried it, didn't work' than 'I wish I'd tried'. I understand completely what Ann is saying, and agree - she's absolutely right, it's not just something you should rush blindly into. Although I have put it almost as a throw-away comment above, I do believe that you have to try things to know if they'll work. I'd rather regret trying, than regret not trying - but that's ME, certainly not everyone! Different strokes, an' all that.... L. |

Hey, get on the b****y plane and have fun  you will all thrive in lots of ways. If your psyche wasn't exploring outcomes like any responsible soul then we would worry. Don't look back, look forwards.

But if I can just make you pause for thought once more and honestly look at some of the aspects of you life you mentioned, then that's enough for me, then I'll shut up :p Thousands of people make a very happy life for themselves here - there is no reason that you shouldn't too. Eyes wide open debzf. |
