Yes! Job offer in Calgary

Hi

My hubby and I have been thinking about, planning and applying for PR for what seems like forever now, despite that we are still looking at at least a 3 year wait:thumbdown: . That was until I e-mailed Calgary Health, I received an e-mail saying to contact them as soon as I was ready to move and they would arrange an interview, well I couldn't hit reply quick enough to tell them I was ready.

Within 24hrs I had an e-mail telling me my CV had been forwarded to one manager, who would guarantee me a job if my interview was ok. The interview was arranged very quickly and I was successful, it was quite informal and I was encouraged to ask questions about non work related issues in addition to employment ones. She even offered to meet up with us when we visit and show us around, I couldn't imagine my head of service doing that in the UK.

The only thing holding the process up is waiting for confirmation of eligability for registration, but I have been informed I should be able to move within 6-8 months. So look out Calgary here we and our 3 boxers come:thumbsup:

Just wanted to share my story, for any other mental health nurses out there who are keen to move. I have been lurking for several months and found this site to be really informative and supportive.

Thank you very much. We are so excited, things seemed to be on hold and it felt like our life was in limbo and suddenly it's all steam ahead.

We even had a couple knock on our door the other night asking if it was true we were moving to Canada and could they buy our house:eek: . When we told them it would be about 8 months before we wanted to sell it they told us that was no problem, they would rent until we were ready. They even suggested seeking advice as to wether we could start the process or get an agreement in writing before June, then we could avoid having to pay for a home sellers pack when they are brought in.

Yeh, though must admit I'm getting scared it's too perfect. Waiting for life to decide it's going too right and throw a spanner in.

No think positive..........8 months and counting

So glad to hear that you will soon be in Canada. Hope that you enjoy your life over here and that all goes well for the family. We lived and were schooled in Ashton-in-Makerfield!!

Well done!
so pleased for you.
I'm another nurse (adult ICU) and I'm due to have a phone interview, what do they ask about nursing matters(or any other thing), I'm dreading this bit!
Thanks

The interview was quite straight forward, just questions about what would you do in different situations, what specific area's I was interested in, was informed about role, no difficult questions about policy, legislation which had worried me as it's totally different.

I even discussed with her the role she was interviewing me for, as it is ward based and I am a specialist community nurse. She acknowledged I was over qualified, but suggested this was a foot in the door, and gave me the oppertunity to study for the exam.

She explained that initially you are employed as a graduate nurse (unqualified so less money) and once you've done the exam and registered, yo become a registered nurse. I eas also informed that the career oppertunities are excellent, and she expected I would only be in that post for 6 months.

So don't worry about the interview, I got the impression from both people I have spoke to that they need to recruit nurses and unless you really mess up (saying something that will result in injury/death), you will get a job offer. It might not be the one you want, but for me the idea of stepping down responsibility whilst I settle into a new country is appealing. I get to do my shift & go home which will allow me to settle in, whilst doing a less stressful job.
