Would Upsticks Tomorrow If We Could!

Hi everyone - we are Lyn and John Hill currently living just north of Manchester in the UK. I (Lyn) was raised in Canada although never stayed long enough in one go to earn citizenship or passport for Canada unfortunately. Now I am all grown up (supposedly) - my Canadian born brother still lives in Cambridge Ontario and my parents spend 6 months a year out there and they are now going back out there to live now they have retired. Hubby and I are in our 40's and are now applying on a skilled worker visa to live in Canada too - might as well, just about the whole family is already out there!
Hubby is a very successful Senior Web Developer with a great resume so we are applying for a visa normally and also on the search for any potential job leads in the Cambridge area (although our search area is pretty wide) as we want to stay near the other members of our family. Obviously it would be ideal if he could find a job then we could get there a lot sooner - we are speaking to specialists on the 20th April and will be at the Canada job Expo in Leeds in June but would certainly appreciate and help/advice/moral support that anyone could give us - it seems such a long road ahead at the moment but we know it will be worth it in the end. Canada is not an unfamiliar country to us and I could only ever feel that I was finally going back home - I think I will cry buckets when i finally get to step back in Canada and be able to stay. Good luck to everyone else on your own personal long roads - fingers crossed for us all!

Lyn

Hello and welcome to BE  Please read the WIKI threads they are full of good information. Just a thought wouldn't it be quicker for your relatives to sponsor you to Canada?

Oh, who recommended that? I really don't know about the sponsorship route but will hopefully be sponsoring our children once we have landed and meet the criteria.

Maybe you could post a question to Andrew Miller, he is an expert in the immigration field and I am sure would give you the correct up to date advice.

Good luck on whichever route you choose anyway

Hello and Good Luck in your move back to Canada. 3yrs to the date that we had been in Canada we applied for Citizenship (our kids automatically got it too - so I always tell them they owe us big time! - I want to be looked after by them in my old age!) It is so nice to see all the young U.K. people moving here now, Canada needs you! This is a great site for alll your questions. Best Wishes
