Sounds like a worldwide trend but particularly in Europe. From the other threads, and here, people are not necessarily saying Canada is much better. But hey you have PR, you could always "give it a go" so to speak but maybe try your hand a little first, you don't have to sell your house yet, you might hate (or love) Canada. I had a friend many years ago who went and he came back hating the place, telling me people were rude etc. Who would have thought? I hear Canadians are plenty polite.

Your occupation might need some time to invest in starting up again. They say networking is BIG in Canada so see if you can get some contacts in your industry (assuming this is still what you want to do) etc etc

If you don't mind me saying, I think you sound a bit negative, perhaps that is just the bad experiences but if you are goind to make this move, you will need every ounce of positivity and go hard spirit...I don't think it will be all smooth sailing even if you do think Switzerland is not so good now. What makes Canada that much better?

Best wishes,
floatsy

As others have said, why agonise over it, why not just come over and have a go?

I'm here on a TWP (in Moncton, NB). I like it well enough, but I don't know whether I will stay here long term. I'm here to have fun and experience a different environment.

Interesting that she is better off on less money in Switzerland than Canada then. Suppose you just answered the OP question and confirmed what I said on page one.

Unless you get a well paying job then Canada will not be any better than Switzerland. Just come for the adventure when your job is done and spend the $400k on fun things.

A mortgage isn't going to be a massive saving in the grand scene of things. Car insurance will supersede a house payment.

Car insurance is expensive but no where near a mortgage payment.

Obviously the only way to decided on whether or not a move is worth it from a financial point of view is to find out what all those monthly expenses are and decide what kind of wage will allow a comfortabe life.

How do you know?

$400k equity in a house in Switzerland. Maybe OP has a small mortgage now? Maybe OP could down size and enjoy life without the xspence of a move?
