the working day in Canada

In the UK I work as a commercial plumber working on, hospital ,office blocks and schools . My day can start from 7 am to 5 pm and I was just wondering what the average working day would be in Calgary . Does anyone here work in the building trade and could let me know ?

Hello. I am plumber from Calgary. I have worked both commerical and residential jobs and I typically started around 7-7:30am and finished at 4. If I was doing residential and working on my own, it was pretty much up to me as long as the job was done and I kept ahead of schedule.

The the day for commercial plumbers we had working for us recently went something like this:

Arrive at 7
Coffee break 7.15
Planning the work until 9.55 whilst drinking coffee
Smoke break - ongoing
Coffee break 10
Lunch 11 (early due to exhaustion)
Back to work around 1
Coffee break 2.00
Coffee break 3.30
Quiting time 4 To get to the pub before it gets too busy

There's a pub nearby? Lucky you!

There is one at the end of the runway (outside of the airport) :) They call it a pub, but I would use the term loosely.

Yeah, the aviator has a more acurate description of a typical day.

They drink coffee, isn't it usually Tim Hortons... i'd use that term loosely :D

The break also involves the drive to a Timmys

That too.

Mind you I am off Tim Hortons now. The portions have got smaller and smaller over the years and the service I have had recently sucks.

Urgh...I know my office would ease to function without caffine induced productivity.

The Aviator's list seems about right (especially if they're on 'per hour', rather than for the whole job!).

Good luck with whatever move you are planning....Calgary is sure a different place to Sussex. There aren't even any permanantly broken fountains that look like post appocolyptic planets...they spend all their money on Tim Hortons instead.

Oh, I know, I'm a fellow Horshamite.

I'm surprised HDC won't take you on full time to fix that thing...it breaks nearly every month!

Anyway...back on topic...
