Default Working in both Canada and the UK

Hi everyone,

I'm truly stumped by my current situation, and not sure what to do. I am both a British and Canadian citizen, and recently moved back to the UK after living in Canada for a few years. I have a FT job in the UK, but recently also began freelancing for a Canadian company (who are paying me into my Canadian account). How do I go about moving the money to the UK? What are the tax implications? I have tried reaching out to accounting companies in both countries, but both tell me that can't specialise in both countries' tax laws.

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks.

Depending on the responses you get here, if youโ€™re on Facebook it may be worth checking out a group called Canadian and UK Taxation for further advice/confirmation.

I believe the UK and Canada have a double taxation agreement, meaning that if you paid income tax in one country, you won't have to pay it in the other if/when you move the money from one country to the other. See here: https://www.gov.uk/government/public...a-tax-treaties

I think there is also something in the BE Wiki on this but I can't seem to find it. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will be along shortly to point you in the right direction, though.

Non resident Canadians do not have to pay taxes in Canada. To make life easier, I would use a limited uk company to invoice the company you are supplying services in Canada. If you don't meet non resident status, you will have to file a tax return in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง and Canada ๐Ÿ.

As for transferring the money. Use https://www.wise.com/

Used by many on the forum including myself and transfers are fairly quick
