Hello everyone,

How do you Brits find the work-life balance in Canada? Do you find you have to work a lot more than in the UK?

A Canadian friend of mine who lives in Europe said that she found the work-life balance in Europe better than in Canada (she was talking about Calgary only and she was in a high powered position as a chartered accountant).

I work, I go home after work.

My Work, get a life, balance is balanced, in a steady balanced kind a balanced way !

(To much use of the word balance?)

Almost Canadian

I work far less and earn far more than I did in England. I have far less travelling time to and from work. On a work/life balance scale of things, it's not a close contest: Alberta wins over England hands down.

I find Canadians spend far more time at work but are far less productive while there.

This is my impression too but, as always, I suspect there are academic papers that "prove" that productivity in both is similar

I'm shockingly unproductive at the moment but it looks like I'm doing stuff, so everyone's happy

Depends on the job, the person, the region, the pay, the mindset, the priorities.... daft question with no real answer relevant and meaningful to anyone other than the person posting 'an' answer.

I work from home when I want. Travel is much better. I had to take a 40% pay cut to get to Canada, but that was because I had my own consultancy company, however I am still in the 6 figure salary range. So the wife and kids remain happy as I do. Plus we are moving into our own home after being in Mississauga for less than a year .

On the other side, I feel day-to-day living is more expensive.
