wooden sidings In calgary
So we looked at a house with wooden sidings today. It was nice. The rear sidings in the sun really need a bit of work and we wondered what the costs were to maintain and paint?

As an aside the young fellow who came to give us the estimate in 2007 could not believe it was 18 years since it had last been painted.

We have wooden siding and its fine! We have lived here two years, and my hubby started painting last summer, and got most of it done!(thankfully its a bungalow!) will finish it this summer and dont expect to have to do it for a number of years!
It wouldnt put me off a house for sure!

We've lived in our current house for 5 years, the paint from previous owners still looks pretty good, no plans to paint it in the next year or so, so far.

Hi guys
Thanks for this. It wasn't putting us off just wanted to factor in costs- know what we were letting ourselves in for. Useful info for later.
Anyway house sold before we even got to really consider it.
i got it on tricklefeed at 6am, we went round at 3:30pm for 1 hr. By 6:30pm it had sold after two offers. We didn't find out until 8:30pm when our realtor called their's with a question. Don't think it ever appeared on MLS.
We had stalled because of the neighbours and wanted to make sure they weren't why the owners were selling. The neighbours have vehicles everywhere- 4 on driveway at least 2 on street and have a permanent project on blocks and another couple of vehicles off the back lane. it concerned us enough to stall, to speak to people living in same street etc.
Onwards into this listings drought.

In the damper Atlantic climate........
We had our clapboard stained again 3 years ago. On the southern/eastern aspects it needs it again this year. Cost circa $1k. I suspect the fact that it is dark blue in colour contributes to the limited lifespan.

At the farm, on Ontario's windiest peak, I refinished all the siding. The finish was in poor shape but the wood was all good. That was about 2008-2010, the house was erected in 1978 so the varnish had been acceptable for 20 years, probably good for 15.
