Winter & Summer timings?
 

Hi everyone,

Can anyone explain to me, is there time differnces in each Province? Also how many hours day light do you get in the Winter? I'm presuming you have a similar method as compared to out GMT i.e. daylight saving time etc.

There are six time zones. From west to east they are Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, Atlantic and Newfoundland & Labrador. They are one hour apart from each other, except from Newfoundland & Laberador, which is a half hour different from its neighbouring time zone.

There are some exceptions, but most of the country observes Daylight Savings Time. We switch to DST on the first Sunday of April (today, as it happens) and we switch back to Standard Time on the last Sunday of October.

I think you said you were heading to Ontario. On the shortest day of the year, Toronto's sunrise and sunset occur at 7.48 a.m. and 4.43 p.m. respectively. On the longest day of the year they occur at 5.36 a.m. and 9.03 p.m. You can look up sunrise and sunset on other dates and in other cities at time and date . com .

And in BC we like to make things complex.

In 2007 BC moves to synchronize Pacific Time with the US and most other provinces, due to the DST benefits. Apart from the Peace River and Kootenay areas, which will not synchronize. Kootenays will remain in sync with AB's Mountain time zone. The Peace River, hell knows what they do. :confused:

Yes Judy we are looking to Ontario. Also, can anyone tell me the tempretures summer time? I've heard BC gets the best and worst of the weather, is this true? If so what tempretures can be expected.

Nah we lucky few in the BC interior get the best and the best. We live in a semi-arid almost desert climate.

Winter... around 0 to -5 most days -15 some nights and extremes of short -20 or so. Nice dry cold winters. Plenty snow on ski hills.

Early/late summer 25+ mid summer 30 to 35 degrees. Hot, dry almost no humidity. Forest fires though :mad: which are inconvenient.

Rest of BC, well coastal BC (the Wet Coast) is rainforest, gets plenty rain (think Manchester plus 30%) and northern BC coastal gets severe cold Arctic outflows and non-coastal northern BC gets way colder winter weather, down to -30 or so. Sheesh. Kootenays are like the interior but not as hot in summer, and somewhat colder in winter. Part of the Southern Interior is Canadas only desert climate.

Try this link for Environment Canada's website climate normals. Pick a province then a location and you'll get most of the info you are asking about and more.

Here is a link for Toronto to give you an idea as to what info is available.
