Winnipeg this year

Hi,
We're moving to Winnipeg this year. Ray is going April 10th, Sal and the Kids are comming over for a week then returning to the UK.
Ray starts work April 28th and would like to chat to other guys already in the peg. General things about life, cars, sport and maybe meet for a beer, I will be on my own until August.
Sal is comming out August 25th, until then she would love to chat to Ladies in the peg about Women things. We have a 16yo Girl who would like to make some e friends, and a 14yo Boy who wants friends too.

Not sure if it makes a difference but, I'm a Truck driver, and Sal in a Nursery Nurse(Breast feeding specialist)

What's the 204 mean? If you don't mind me asking. Good choice to come in April, its so cold right now my hands go numb even when wearing gloves.

Hi Andrew, 204 is the std code for Winnipeg. I was out in November for job interviews, It's not my choice to come out in April, my new boss says the start date is by May 1st, or no deal. So what do you do out there? I know It's very cold out there at the minute -40 odd, but what the heck, It's got to be better than here

Ahh yes, 204, i should know that. I work as a Structural Engineer in an consulting office, although I'm seriously considering applying for Air Traffic control. The weathers not too bad, it's actually quite refreshing. Are you working out of Steinbach? Steinbach seems to have been invaded by British truckers.

Nah, My job is in the peg, Terracon park. I'm not doing long haul, home every night for me from now on. I've got an apartment on Hargrave from April, Sal is out for the first week, then she and the kids come back to the UK.
We're looking to set up home either just inside the perimeter on the west side, or outside towards Dugald/Anola. Have you been out there very long?

Just over two years now. I met a Canadian girl during university, worked for a year in the UK after graduating and alas I find myself here. Must be the accent or something, they're very persuasive.

Anola eh? You'll get to spend your Saturday nights at the legendary "Over 50 club". Dress to impress and bring your bingo pen.

Is that Holiday Towers on Hargrave? We spent our first month there. Okay apart from ridiculous "cleaning" charges on leaving, and 20 dollars for 1 broken flea market plate

Also were just inside the perimeter West, in Crestview. Nothing to write home about, but a very solid house, and very cheap

I don't miss the cold though, -29c windchill here today and it's all coming flooding back to me

Hi Guys, Yep Holiday towers! What cleaning charges are they? Nothing mentioned yet. It seems like a reasonable rate, $1150 a month all in (except internet and parking) We've fallen in Love with a house we've seen on MLS up in North Kildonan, Awesome. I used to run Eastern block, so I'm used to sub zero tempretures -30 and below. We plan to give it 2 full years and see what happens! No point in trying it for less than that.

Weekly cleaning was included, it was the cleaning charges on leaving at the end of the rental that were a shock. We were unaware any extra cleaning was necessary, the place was exactly as we'd found it (minus 1 broken plate which we 'fessed up to, but thought as it was from the 1970s, it'd be a few dollars to replace). I didn't argue though, just let it go.

Still, no real complaints about the place. We loved that you could use the Delta Hotel pool and hot tub for free. Cable and internet was hooked up only a few hours after we enquired about it, they have a direct contact at Shaw. The front office people were very efficient. Arranging parking was a bit of a pain but the Impark people were very nice and quick to give the deposit back at the end of our stay.

Happy house hunting, hope you get the one you want

I know they're supposed to change towels twice a week, and bed linen once a week, and do a bit of light cleaning. They're cutting me a deal where I get a 2 bed for the first week, then I go into a studio on my own for??????
It's saved us alot of money for that first week, the cheapest hotel is the Marlborough which would have been $150 a night. I'm looking forward to using the pool and hot tub, apparently we get a deal on the gym too!
I'm possibly going to get a bike, and ride it to work! It's just under 5 miles and dead flat, see how it goes

The Marlborough Hotel is absolutely awful. It's an...errr...experience...to stay there  Holiday Towers is like The Savoy in comparison, you've made the right choice
