Re: why should i move from UK to canada?
hi
you are so right, you can come to england, get free health care, you will be given a home to suit the size of your family, you don`t even have to work. You will get lots of money from the government if you have children( the more the better)
if you go to Canada you have to work for EIGHTEEN months before you get free money for children, and you have to pay for your house/apt yourself, its not free,and worst of all you must either be working or a student to get health care, and you must PAY FOR IT.
you`ll be better off in england

Re: why should i move from UK to canada?
I think that alot of us have done this for a better quality of life for our families as some of the crime, drugs etc in the UK are too out of control. I am not for one moment saying that these do not exist in Canada but depending on where you chose to settle then they are not quite as prevalent.
I have been in Alberta for a year come August and this is what I have found already :
* Teachers are more committed to their students - important for kids.
* Tonnes of support for kids in school from teachers and counsellors.
* Less pressure in the work place.
* Minimal commute time to work ie 10 minutes each way for the both of us compared to a total of about 4 hours between both of us per day.
* More family time.
* Nice people.
* Beautiful scenery.
* More space.
I have go to admit I have always been very career minded before I emigrated but since coming here I have now become less career focus and (at 42) for the first time ever I am working part time as opposed to mega amounts of hours in the UK!
If you have asked the question to see how many of us do this as we are just so p'd off with living in the UK then I think that you will be very sadly mistaken as generally I think the views above are those of the majority of the people on this forum.
My advice to anyone is DO NOT do this move unless you know WHY you are doing it and HOW it will work for you and your family. Dont ever do this move on a whim or let someone talk you into it or out of it if it is something which you personally think you should be doing.

I think you have summarised in a list there every reason why all of us on this forum want to become CANUKS, its all about quality of life and having that little extra disposable income to be able to enhance the quality of life.
I am not unhappy in the UK now, I live in a nice area, but Im looking to the future, and presently my home is the only thing I do enjoy...ive had to let go many other luxuries due to the cost of living - ie nice car, sky television, weekends away, masssive cut down in socialising with friends... the list goes on.
I think my initial period when I get to Canada isnt going to be a walk in the park...I think it will be pretty tough at times, adapting to a different culture, obtaining and fitting into a new job....but you do that to eventually enjoy all what you have listed and more! - the big picture, if you havent got that view, and have to ASK why, there is little point in doing it.
I must say its nice to listen to peoples positivity on this part of the forum, and agree with their like mindedness of why they want to move, as I have said before, Ive had fair amount of negative comments from some members of my family, also I have been reading the MMBTUK part of this forum - talk about negativity! - each to their own and all that... but anyone would think Canada one of the worse places on earth to live! I think its important to read negative aswel as positive views, (however too many dont help when your making such a big leap - and sow seeds of doubt on occaions)
I think peoples negative opinions comes about when people dont do enough research before hand on a variety of differences between Canada and the UK, and then all of a sudden when they get there have an almighty culture shock. I have tried to find out as much as I can - and luckily I have a friend who has been there 3 years now who has given been a big education into Canadian lifestyle....and what to be prepare for. This I think will be of invaluable help to me...

Re: why should i move from UK to canada?
hello to everyone,
i got a intersting question for everyone... i am an indian and living in the UK from last 4 years... i m married and i got 3 years old daughter. i did apply for canadian PR under SW in 2007 and i hope i will get some reply in 2010 but now i am thinking that why should i move from UK to canada? i was in canda for two weeks in 2007 and i like this place but there is nothing wrong with the UK. Here we got more job opputunities than in canada. The weather is much better than canada and medical is all free...ofcourse there are some negatives as well but overall it is a good place to live (atleast that is what i think) and in the end you have to wait about 4 years... that is a long time....... comment please.... thanks

Healthcare is not free in the UK - what do you pay part of your National Insurance contributions for? If you get good medical insurance coverage over here (I have via my job) then it's not an issue over here.
If you think there's nothing wrong with the UK and you are quite happy, then why move?

Re: why should i move from UK to canada?
I think generally the standard of living is higher in Canada than in England.
We visit Canada quite a lot as my wife is Canadian and since marrying me she has been living here in the U.K for 8 years.
The difference she has seen is that the general Quality of life is better in Canada (B.C where she lived for 25 years , she 35 now) than here is London.
Saying that for my particular profession (Pharmacist) I get much more spare and leisure time here in London than I would for a similar position in Canada.

Oh yes, as I found out to my horror the other day at the BBQ where there were mainly expats, the Brititsh that come here certainly aren't all sweetness and light. Someone actually used the "N" word repeatedly!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I had misheard and didn't challenge, and then was told I hadn't misheard at all, and it was peppered throughtout a conversation that I missed........
I love the hypocrisy of someone being an immigrant themselves and then referring to people as being "N"s.
Had I have caught the biggoted git in the act, he wouldn't have been staying long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!:curse:
Anyway this simeongb character obviously in one of the immigrants that potentially gives the rest of us a bad name! Rant over.

Personally I am intrigued as to why the OP hasn't been back to post about any of the replies...

Re: why should i move from UK to canada?
maybe it's an attack on the policies in place rather than the OP being from another country? To jump right to the conclusion that the person is bigoted is a bit off even with the link Bazzzzz posted

But it's not a reasoned argument that the policies in place are somehow unfair. It's just parroting the kind of racist crap that the Daily Mail prints.

I'm not sure he was trying to make a reasoned argument, only giving a somewhat glib opinion on the topic

People toss the 'r' word around far too liberally. Surprised this thread hasn't been removed by a mod.
