I'm not loving this season of the Tudors.

Some yes, but there have been some good ones - one week - is one of my favorite, recent films.

I think Oinks description fits that quite nicely. Cancer victim with months to live, but somehow able to ride across Canada with no real health issues - yeah, right... yawn.

If I recall, and I may be wrong, the poster stated that Britain had massively contributed to the world. I asked him/her in what way and s/he didn't reply. You then gave art as an example. I don't particularly want to get into the whole "is art worth a penny" argument. What I was trying to get across in my previous post is that, whether England or Canada has the better art industry is likely to be irrelevant to anyone living outside of the "West". I would not suggest that art massively contributes to anything except for the bank balances of those that can afford to pay for painting, the cost of which is likely to exceed the cost of a hospital wing, to quote a great Scottish band.

Happen you should watch it. I loved it for the locations and the great Canadian music score.

Who cares where the movies are from - Canada or Mongolia.

Your focus on paintings and high art is a typical lawyerly obfuscation. UK cultural output has enriched the lives of millions, all the way from the beatles to benny hill. The world also plays our sports and a large part of the world follows and gets enjoyment from the premier league. Our culture is everywhere, and so I would say that this does count as a 'massive contribution' to the world.

I really didn't want this to turn into a pissing contest about whether or not the UK contributes more than Canada or not, but the assertion that the UK is shite; breeds nothing but chavs; no longer makes anything of value and does not contribute anything to the world is just wrong on every level.

Yes - agree. It's not something I focus on really. See second para of above rant

'Away From Her' and 'A History of Violence' are both excellent... with the former based on an Alice Munro short story (one of Canada's - nay, the world's - finest writers).
