Also, if you are now threatened in London you can always expect Boris Johnson to be ready to help

But you can't simply lump everyone from South Asia into one ethnic group and everyone from East Asia into another. That is about as useful and accurate as categorizing everyone from Europe and the Middle East as an Ayrian/Arab ethnic group.
All I was trying to get across is that Vancouver is a very diverse place if you consider the number of nations and cultures represented here. It is not less diverse because many of the people look vaguely like each other. Nor does the fact that there are relatively few black people around mean that it cannot be a diverse place.

Oh and add crazy drivers in Canada to my list.
So you'd rather be attacked by ferals kids with iron bars than live with those cons I listed?

Re: Why do you want to move to Canada
I can remember in Hackney, there were stabbings and shootings over many weekends. We lived there and we were aware of how much was going on. We moved south of the river and my girlfriend has been attacked by a man in the park. Sydenham Hill is a relatively respectable neighbourhood, but there's a high concetration of people throughout London and a general disregard for other people. This last weekend saw 3 people killed in separate incidents in south London.
The thing that actually wears me down though is the tired, unhelpful faces on the streets of this city that litter everywhere and generally resent the other people around them. If you work in London you generally cannot afford to live away from the poorer areas with higher concentration of unhappy people. It's not their fault, it's the way London works and for many years always has.

For sure (though I think ghetto is a pejorative word in these circumstances), but I am thinking of Vancouver as a region (The Lower Mainland) rather than a specific city or neighborhood.

Happens in most large cities unfortunately, whether Toronto or London. I would still happily live in either.

Re: Why do you want to move to Canada
It is my experience, my opinion and my decision. If you are happy in the UK and I'm happy here in Canada, then that's all that matters. I don't need to convince anyone to move here. The OP asked for our opinions and I gave mine. I don't need analysis to show me what i perceive as reality.

My point is the value that you get out of a place has to be worth it. Hackney (and now South London for us) doesn't offer enough for what you have to put up with. The focus generally in London isn't people, it's money and status. Hey it is one of the major capitalist markets in the world. I'm sure there are other places in the world, cities, with a different focus.
Also I'd add, I can happily live in both (Toronto/London), I'd actually live most places. But that says nothing about those places and a lot about me. I'm pretty sure I've not found the best place in the world for us to live, but I'll do my research and discuss with my girlfriend what we could have somewhere else and go for it.

I am sure that statistically I am more likely to be shot in Surrey BC than Surrey UK.
My perception, because I am not associated in any way with drugs or gang activity, is that I am much safer in Surrey BC.
I think my perception is the reality.

I never said Canada was perfect. I said there were more pros than cons. Would I have stayed in this country if the banks and phones were what would drive me away? Seriously.
It's funny you had to dig through every single of my posts to try and attack me. Come on man, get real and stay on topic.

Of course I'd love to be attacked by "feral" kids with iron bars Perhaps it will show that the UK is in "crisis" and has "gone to the dogs"
As it was, during the 2 years I lived in Leeds and the 10+ years I lived in London I was obviously extremely lucky and managed to miss bar-wielding ferrality along with the pedo immigrants on each street corner.

Re: Why do you want to move to Canada
Our tabloids read just like the UK ones, Crime, incompetent government, schools failing, too many immigrants
Canadians justifications for leaving are almost the same as the Uk, but I sincerely believe that their grievance with weather is justified

Expensive and poor, never a good combination. Many of the serious incidents in Toronto also happen in one might be considered one borough, and again there is no doubt poverty plays its part. The figures from Hackney are quite depressing:
* Population: 205,000
* Average house price: £430,000
* Average income: £25,000pa
* Education:
15 year olds with 5+ A* to C GCSE grades: 17.2 per cent
