Re: Why do you Stay in Canada?
Why so many negative opinions by some of us who are living here….
In my case its simple… Far to many positive sounding fantasies from those not living here…. If your giving every thing up to emigrate to a place, you at least need honest answers from people already here… not fantasies from those still waiting to live out a dream.. Over here you’ll get to meet the members of Iaink’s case 2… With honest answers you can prepare for the worst… all the positive information you hear on this forum maybe very useful for preparing for the best, but not much real use other than making the waiting less painful… Every negative point of view, every bad experience posted on this forum gives you a real chance of being able to avoid it…. Giving you a better chance of enjoying he positive points of Canada… |

Re: Why do you Stay in Canada?
I love it here...wart's and all!! I left the Uk for love, however, now I am here in Canada, I would be hard pushed to return to the UK on a voluntary basis...sorry to say that...but true. Canada is far from perfect, however from a quality of life stand point...the U.K. is very much an 'also ran'...and I lived tyhere for almost 56 years. It's so sad to see the social infrastucture there in decline but lamenting the current trends does not make otherwise. So here I am...and here I will stay!

Re: Why do you Stay in Canada?
It is great to see so much positivity re Canada!
In my first year here, I could have easily gone back home in a heart beat. So glad I didn't, though! Daisymoll: Agree with all that you said! Seacreature: Quote '2) There are some things about Canada that beat the UK hands down, i.e absence of scumbags on every street corner & great weather. Therefore I intend to stick it out here for at least a year or hopefully 3 when I can apply for citizenship.' Most definitely relate to that!! tallperson: Quote 'But I think missing family back in Europe and the far better schools in UK will lure us back before too long.' Better schools? I used to think that - but in reality I believe standards have dropped as much there as here, if not more so. For a long time, the family ties were 'pulling' at me. But when I went back to visit, it had changed so much, that I knew I couldn't go back to live. As a result I finally felt 'settled' in Canada. Now I am trying to get my mum to join me, rather than consider going back! Morwenna: You have a great attitude! Bananahammock: Quote 'I worry about the kids settling as they are 16 and 12 so may find the whole process harder than younger ones but we shall see' I think that will be a case of only time will tell, and what your kids are like - I have heard of older children not adapting so well - good luck! ;) SimonG: Quote 'We stayed to give it a good go. After 18 months (including 2 winters) it's not what we want so we are doing something about it. That's just our personal opinion and everybody is different.' That's a shame - have you though about moving within Canada, first? Maybe 18 months is a little short for such a huge a change? -------------------------- As for any other negative comments you read - they just picked the wrong Province ;) (I AM only kidding, there is a friendly (mostly) east-west rivalry in Canada - but don't forget the 'Alberta advantage' :D :D |
Re: Why do you Stay in Canada?
I moved here to be near my parents. Since my divorce 14 years ago I have been very close to them and was heartbroken when they moved here 3 years ago. I couldn't stand being so far from them if anything happened to them. I visited with my daughter and we both liked it, so we came last September. It's been hard. Living in a flat in a city is very different to living in a council house on the outskirts of a town in the UK. My job doesn't pay enough to live on and I wouldn't survive without help from my parents. I miss my son and best friend in the UK a lot.
However...once you've made the decision to be here, you have to give it a go. We've only been here 7 months and it's still 'early days'. In a few months I could have a better job, maybe buy a mobile home, find some new friends... who knows?! It would be hard to go back to the UK now as I would be homeless, jobless and broke.... but, if things don't work out here, I'm sure someone would take me in until I could get back on my feet again....BUT... I will give it a year or two and see what happens... I guess most people take between 6mths and 3yrs to feel 'at home' in a new country. I'm sure everyone has times when they wonder why they moved or when they wish they could turn back the clock. Those times don't generally last though and you look around at the beautiful countryside and think.. yes, that's why I'm here.... I hope that helps. Donniboo |
