Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
I had to drive to work this morning after about 4 inches of snow fell during the night.
Now I know by North American standards, 4 inches of snow is nothing, but WHY do people drive like absolute ar*eholes here?!?!? :curse: Speeding or driving to close to other road users... and they wonder why they ended up in an accident or a ditch! Any thoughts/views on this????????? :p |

I would guess it's because we never really get snow (except this week) so people are not aware how to drive on snow.

I saw a car this morning doing 50mph+, meanwhile I was doing a steady 25! One car nearly rear-ended me because he braked too hard and just slid towards me but luckily the kerb stopped him before my car did!!! I haven't seen the French driving in snow but I've seen them driving around the arc de triomphe.........they're bloody mental! |

I just think common sense would prevail when the road is thick with snow!

I'm learning to drive at the minute so I guess I'll be getting some experience driving in snow tomorrow on my lesson:unsure: |

It was bad enough learning to drive in dry conditions ;) |

Re: Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
Meh. I can state for a fact that it's not the new immigrants causing the problems. We had the same phenomenon in New England every year. First snow; nobody seemed to know what to do and drove like idiots. Maybe it calms down after that 'cause all the idiots end up in ditches.
...'course, that was in New Hampshire so maybe it was the French Canadians after all ... ;) Regarding the Brits (in Britain) - not only do they not have any experience in snow, none of them have winter tires. I'd have spent the last two months in the driveway if I didn't have four winter tires on my all-wheel drive. |
Re: Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
Winnipeggers drive like idiots all year round, then when it snows they crash a lot (2000 crashes in the city first day of snow) then they tune in

Re: Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
Brits definately don't have much experience with snow.
Every time we get just one flake of snow, the airports shut down, train and bus services are cancelled, gritters run out of grit (like today) and everything in the whole country collapese! |
Re: Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
Well...Obviously the Brits have no real experience of driving in these conditions. Frankly here in Calgary we have any number of 'fender benders' once the snow and ice hits so I wouldn't feel too bad!!!

Re: Why do Brits drive like idiots in the snow????
Bad drivers and Idiots in the snow are common world wide
It’s just in Canada we’re slightly more efficient at getting rid of the snow, and pulling the numb nuts out of the ditches |
