Default Who has and who hasnt used an immigration agent?

Hi everybody, just wondering about the above question please. I have just started all the paperwork to sponsor my hubby and baby (both born in new zealand) this week. My god, its so confusing....... Think I may need to get an officer to help me with it all. I still have to look at the paperwork for my older kids that were born before the time frame in place that allows them to become citizens because of my canadian citizenship as they were born after the rules changed. Hoping thats not too hard.

So I guess I'm wondering if its just me being stupid or is it actually possible to complete it all without an officer.

I will take a look at the immigrations section later on but does anyone also know if it any quicker to obtain if an officer is used? Thanks in advance for your help.

The forms and applications are really self explanitory and have a good set of accompanying guides so you should be able to do it yourself. Paying for an agent really is a waste of money in my eyes as they stil get you to fill out a lot of the info and collate it yourself.
Save yourself 3 grand and spend it on a recce trip instead!

Some immigration 'specialists' will tell you they can put things on the application forms that you cannot and that they can move things faster. It's all untrue. You can do all this yourself easily. They fill out the same forms with the same info that you would do yourself and they charge a ton of money too.
Also beware those that only charge a fee if your application through them is successful. If there's a small chance of not getting through then they will just reject you outright without even trying. They'll take those with a strong chance of success, but of course then you have an equally strong chance by yourself. We were told by one agency that we had absolutely no chance to get into Canada and yet here we are in Ontario without any problem at all.

Every single person who has immigrated to or entered Canada from outside the borders has used and immigration officer to get in.

I guess she meant immigration consultant and not the immigration officer

we did it with no agent; a while back I amused myself by filling in a 'pre-assessment' check from one of these agencies that said I wasn't eligible! By that point I was 2/3 through the process, and we made it to the end successfully with no problems.

My understanding is that an agent can't speed up the process, and you will still have to collect all the relevant info - and that's the time consuming part!

So long as your application isn't complex, and you take your time and triple check everything, I'm sure you can do it yourself

Not what was asked though, we can only speculate what someone may or may not have meant.

Important to think what one is saying before posting.

We used an immigration consultant purely for advice on which forms to use (which was free). The application forms themselves are very straight forward and guides are available as said before.

Something we found helpful when filing our application was to include a cover letter explaining certain areas of the application in more detail or clarifying areas we thought might raise questions.

We didn`t use an immigration consultant.

In our case, as a married couple with no children, no convictions or other obstacles, plenty of points and a job offer in Canada, there really wasn`t any need in our opinion to use one.

All went well with our application and we are now PR.

Those with more complicated circumstances might think differently.
