WHM/TWP USING UK DRIVERS LICENCE..PLEASE HELP!!

hey i have read many posts on here but i find myself scratching my head!

i moved to australia in 08 from the uk and met a canadian girl....i have now come over to calgary (alberta) on a temp working holiday visa which lasts for 1 year. My question is, i have been here for 6months nearly and havnt needed to drive but i have just turned 25 and now would like to hire a car. Will my uk driving licence be ok to use as i have a temp visa?? i have read many different posts and been to many different sites and i cant seem to find an answer??

any help would be very much appreciated!!

My husband used his UK license to rent a car and drive in the US for more than a year, he didn't get a US license until he got his green card. He was even stopped by the police once and gave them his UK license with no problems.

You would be best advised to call driver licensing in Alberta to check. If you find yourself unlicensed you may find yourself also uninsured. Not a good situation to be in. No matter what risks others have taken and got away with it, you may not be so fortunate. Only the licensing authority can give you a definitive answer.
