Default Split Ontario/Montreal living

Hello all

I'm a newbie here. I've spent a lot of time searching the forums to see if I can find answers to my many questions . I had no luck so decided to join the forum and post them here instead.

I'm a 26yr old nurse hoping to emigrate within the next 18months. I would really like to live in Montreal, but would prefer to work in Ontario so that having done the CRNE, my nursing registration is transferable throughout Canada. I have been doing a lot of research into how to make this possible, and I've ended up with a solution (and quite a few questions!) I think . I would be extremely grateful for your input.
  1. I've been looking at maybe finding work in Cornwall/Alexandria/Eastern Ontario. How far is this from the border areas of Montreal?
  2. From my research, Lasalle seems great for commuting. How far is it from Cornwall/Alexandria/Eastern Ontario. I would be driving or using public transport if it's available.
  3. Is it more Anglo, mixed or French? I would definitely prefer a more French area.
  4. What's it like in Lasalle? Affordable housing, transportation and access to the city centre, culture and nightlife, amenitites, friendliness etc...pls feel free to add anything else you think is important!
  5. Have you better suggestions re: majority French/mixed areas in Montreal with affordable housing, within easy commute of Ontario?

I have a 1.5hr (one way!) commute for work now, so I'm fine with anything in that region. I work/school/socialise/have my life in London at the moment; I love the cosmopolitan feel of city life/quietness of living outside London, and a similar setup in Canada would be perfect. Basically I want to eat my cake and have it!

Thanking you in advance for your help!

Clara

Alternatively there's always Ottawa.
One side of the river is Quebec, the other side is Ontario.
They have hospitals both sides too.

Unlike the UK, a 1.5 hr commute in a Canadian summer can be a lot worse in a Canadian winter.
