Where to live in North Vancouver?
Wonder if anybody living in Vancouver can provide some thoughts on where to live in North Vancouver, ideally close to trails for morning hikes. Was looking at grouse mountain area, lynn creek or deep cove. Would these locations be close enough to bike downtown (within day 30 mins)? Would be for renting for 2-3 months most likely and making daily trips to Vancouver downtown. |

I think it's a stretch to cycle from Deep Cove to downtown in 30 min. It's thick end of 20kms. Deep Cove is quite attractive, but it's also a very wet place to live. Lynn Creek is a little closer to downtown, Grouse similar. Google suggests an hour's cycle + for each destination. |

I lived at Lonsdale & 8th St for a few years in the 90's. I relied 100% on public transportation and worked at the Pan Pacific hotel downtown. Walked 8 blocks to the Seabus that I timed to perfection, and 15 minutes later I was clocking in for my shift.

Nice areas but biking downtown in that time probably not. Lions Gate can get very congested although if you commute (in a car) from N Van to Downtown in morning and come back in the evening you might be ok. i like North Van but I don’t like the fact you only have two bridges that deal with all the traffic |

You might find it hard to find a rental for such a short period unless you are talking executive rentals or Airbnb/homestay types - both of which will be horrendously expensive. Most rentals are for a year.. (and unfurnished) though you might be lucky and find a sub let... but I suspect you might end up having to take whatever you can get, regardless of whether it's in your area of choice. :)https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Renting-Canada |

We live in North Vancouver. My husband cycles downtown to work most days except when the weather intervenes. You can also put the bike on the bus.

The cheapest way from NV to downtown would be transit ........... using Seabus, which runs frequently.
My daughter lived for a year just off Lonsdale at about 7 or 8th Avenue. She would walk to the Seabus terminal, and then walk from the Vancouver terminus to her office in Gastown. Her return trip at the end of the work day often included picking up things for dinner at the Lonsdale Market. You can take your bike on Seabus |

We live in Blueridge which is about halfway between Second Narrows and Deep Cove. I cycle sometimes, about 45 minutes to downtown depending on where in downtown you are talking about. There's also a pretty decent bus service. The big advantage of living on this side is when driving you avoid "The Cut" (the stretch of Highway 1 between Lynn Valley and Mount Seymour Parkway exits) when driving downtown which is notorious for bad traffic. A few minutes walk from Lower Seymour Conservation reserve and about 25 minutes drive from Mount Seymour for hiking/mountain biking.

We're nearer to Grouse. It takes my husband about half an hour to cycle via Capilano Road and Lionsgate Bridge to West Georgia Street. The Great Outdoors is on our doorstep. He says it's good exercise, it's free and you don't have to sweat in the gym with everyone else. I go for a daily uphill walk right on my door step. Just about to go off now!
