I tend to think it would be cheaper to order from the UK for his friend in India than relying on Safeway or any Canadian supplier.

i dont give a stuff about his friend i was mentioning why would anyone in Canada order British food stuffs etc when we can buy it off the shelf..so surely no one would have a valid opinion on the subject.

Ah but not all of the so called brit stuff you buy off the shelves over here is actually from the UK Check your labels to see if made under licence and produced and made in Canada. Cadburys chocolate bars, basic guinness are examples of this. The guinness is brewed by Labatts.

That's a defeatist attitude.

I know, I know

No home deliveries where I live though, and the thought of Eccles cakes slowly decomposing in a Purolator distribution centre for several days while I await my collection notification is enough to deter my genetic drive for overpriced imported crap.

Are available in both styles. If you mistakenly put a local one in your mouth you'll spit it out like it was one of those Marlboro made under license in Belgium.

Don't know which one is the best?
A new grocery store (petes.ca) just opened here in Wolfville with a 'Best of Britain' section. There's a good selection but prices are high so we wait for things to be discounted. Recent sales include Heinz beans for $1.25/can and various 230g Cadbury bars for $2.99.

That's good old Pete Luckett, a Nottingham native. The same as Pete's Frootique in Bedford and Spring Garden Rd in Halifax. Not too much Brit stuff that you can't get from his stores.

He's as close to a local celebrity as we get around here. The opening of his shop is a huge vote of confidence in the Valley as are the developments at his vineyard, next to his house/farm, a few miles away.

I just walked down to Pete's for a coffee and thought I'd share a few pics of their British section.

There are about a gazillion threads on here, do a search. Loblaw's (aka No Frills, Canadian Superstore) is usually the best place to start.

The PG Tips isn't the same, go for English breakfast tea, or something like that, Loblaw's is okay. Depends on whereabouts in Canada you are as well.

Nope, no need to in Canada, British stuff is everywhere and Canadians aren't as into using the internet to order things anyway because of the postage costs.
