where in canada?

Right was just wondering about peoples own experiences where the best place for a family to live would be?
A place that has good schools, outdoor activities and close to shopping centres (for the missus):p

Re: where in canada?

That's far too vague a question to be honest. Canada is such a huge country, and the description you've given could apply to pretty much anywhere!

A bit more info would be helpful so that people can make suggestions for you. What do you do, how much do you have to spend on a house, what sort of climate do you want, what sort of activities do you want i.e. skiing, do you want to be in a French or English speaking part, or bilingual, do you want to be near the coast, etc, etc.

If you can give more info, then people can help you. Ultimately, if you need a job offer for a visa, then you'll just have to go where ever you can find work, and may not get much choice in it.

Well with my trade they are advertising everywhere! I don't want to be in a place that rains a lot like I said yesterday.
That's why I'm asking people as I know canada is a huge country so its not like I can visit everywhere!
You seem to know a lot about the place where did you live?

Edmonton. You'll love it. They've got loads of new construction projects coming up, so work wise you'll be sorted. Plus your Mrs. can spend all your hard earned at the West Edmonton Mall. It's a win/win, you can't go wrong.

That would be a bit like me asking "where in Europe?" Try to narrow down what you want to something more specific like...
Do you want to be in a city or rural or remote?
Do you want to live near the ocean, Great Lakes, inland lakes, not near water at all?
Do you want to be near mountains or flat?
Do you want really ****ing cold in the winter or do you prefer not so much?
East or west?
Do you want French speaking or English only?

Preferably city, am not bothered about where I am as water is concerned!
The cold doesn't really get to me and like I've said I can't stand rain!
English speaking would be better

Based on your further comments, and Mr Harper's points, I second Edmonton for you. No further research is required.

No need to look, this is your place.

Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg would also fit your criteria, but the shopping is not as good. Calgary a bit more expensive, and no mega-mall. Toronto, Vancouver have good shopping (but again no mega-mall) and you pay a big price premium for the location. All the other cities are a bit small (except Montreal which is mostly French speaking). Add to that Alberta's buoyant economy and low taxes, it's a great choice.

Go to where the work is for your trade. Edmonton sounds good. But don forget that little diamond gem of a place called Moncton, I hear loads of good stuff there too, oh and Toronto that's nice and they make things there, and Vancouver is good if you like the sea and fish and mountains, and Nova SCotia is also a place that some people in Canada live, as is Sackatoon, they even made a song about Sackatoon so it must be good, and Niagara Falls, that is a place with water were some people live and they have places like hotels and stuff.

Sackatoon? Where's that ?! :D

All the places you suggest have good points, but they don't all fit the OP's criteria (why go to highly unaffordable Vancouver if you don't need the sea, dislike rain, and don't have an issue with the cold)? I think it's best to research one city and then make comparisons on that, rather than trying to research and evaluate a bunch of cities simultaneously!

Although I do keep hearing about this place called Moncton :p
