If you are venturing down to Bellingham I enjoy this one. http://www.bbaybrewery.com/
Bellingham is a really nice little town. I want to try that Creole restaurant in the old bit, just up from Chuckanut actually. I had lovely oysters next door to it.

There is a large microbrew scene in BC ("craft beer" here), which I haven't seen elsewhere in Canada, having recently visited Toronto and Winnipeg - it simply doesn't exist to the same extent. As a result, I imagine the beer scene in Canada varies dramatically from region to region.
Some of my personal favourites:
Howe Sound Brewing
Phillips
Tree Brewing
Parallel 49
Coal Harbour
Powell Street Brewery
33 Acres
Townsite Brewing
Here is a list: http://www.bcbeer.ca/brewery.aspx - is anyone outside of BC familiar with any of them?
Vancouver/Victoria seem to have adopted the similar west coast IPA style as their contemporaries in Washington and Oregon state. If hoppy, citrusy IPAs are of your fancy, BC is a good place to be. Some interesting porters, saisons, and lagers, and stouts too.

There are lots of micro-breweries in QC and a lot of the stuff is very good (some of it dangerously strong). I don't think it gets shipped very far. As an example, we went to a place on the Ile d'Orleans last summer. A micro with a pub attached. I had probably the best pilsener I have ever tasted. The stuff is nigh-on impossible to find once you get beyond about 20 miles of where it is brewed.

The "Artinsanal beer of the month club" that I'm a member of, has recently arranged for some of the products from here: http://lestroismousquetaires.ca/ to find their way to Newfoundland. I haven't had a chance to sample the few packs I purchased yet, but it is the most beautifully packaged beer I've ever seen. Hopefully it tastes as good!

Oh the outdated stereotypes. No to all of that. In North America, craft beer aficionados are more likely to be hipster types than old men with beards and pipes. I like decent beer. I dislike industrial brewed pap.

Oh I do so agree. Some people are a bit up their own ass about it & the recent offering included a specialist belgian beer at $22 for 375ml bottle. I like beer, but not that much. They have managed to expand the range of beers stocked by the Liquor Corp and thats to be applauded.

You were doing quite well there, until you used "hipster".

GM food is like the norm here (like in the US). I believe it's the reason why so many kids here get allergies and eczema.
Other than that, shawarmas are pretty good over here
