Everything is so confusing for most when half of things are metric and the rest imperial.

I think if a country adopts something it should do so wholeheartedly and then everyone gets used to it after a time.

METRIC GETS MY VOTE, it's a simpler system altogether
The students i work with dont understand imperial measures (apart from pints! ) so when i have a falshback and ask for something thats 12 inches i have to translate and say 24 cm.

same in the shops where most of the staff are students, we only seem to be left with miles which is daft, why dont we have kilometres?

A lot of us that were born in Canada grew up with the imperial system. If I recall, metric measurements didn't become the norm until the 70's.

That's probably why you'll see lb/kg, etc. noted in grocery stores... it's to assist those of us who are still metric inept!

Oh, so there are 30.333333333' to a package of butter. That's simple.

Alas, I just checked the pack, butter and lard come in 454g packages, not 455 so that's 30.266666666666666666666666666667 tablespoons, metric doesn't seem so simple now.

I think we've all seen it. I thought it a good advert for Canada. The site owner's complaint is that Canadians won't let him do doctoring because he's not a doctor. It's hard to be upset for him. He also wouldn't be allowed to practise law or fly an aeroplane due to being neither a lawyer nor a pilot.

Now you're mixing millilitres with grams!

I was surprised to see a Dept. of Transport cyclepath sign system in place along the Kelvin before we left, that was in KM. I meant to write to my MP and be outraged but never got round to it. I wondered if this was the beginning of KMs in Britain, snuck in through the back door...

I do like the cup system though...I don't have to care about how many mls it is, it's just a scoop.

With Canadian cups being such a round number, are American cups the same or slightly different then?? I wonder if that's been the cause of recent cake flop

According to the OH, who is half way through a professional cooking course in Toronto, Canadian and US cups are the same. I asked her "what's a cup in metric", answer "ten ounces in Britain, here it's eight".
