What way do I go
 

I am currently living in Scotland, nearing the end of 22 years service in the British Army. I am looking at moving over to Canada with my family when I finish up in November, but not sure what way to go about it. I served in Canada a few times for 6 month at a time, so know a bit about the country, the cold winters and hot summers. I am looking at doing Truck driving in Edmonton/Frt McMurray or Saskatchewan areas. I have 2 children that live in Alberta that were born in Scotland, but are now Canadian citizens (I was married to a Canadian) Any advice on what visas, pnp would be best suited would be gratefully received, Thanks in advance

As a truck driver, you really only have one option for a visa, which is a Temp Work Permit - have a read of the Wiki for more info.

I am not an expert on all things visa related but I would think that your existing family members here might have some impact on what visa you might be eligible for. There would seem to be a case for being able to re-unite with your children.

I was thinking that because I have children in Alberta it would maybe make things a bit easier to aquire a visa but I dont want to go through one of the immigration companies that charge an arm and a leg for there services. I just thought there was maybe someone else on here that's been in a similiar situation and follow the path that they would have taken. Can I apply for permanent residency, if I required a Working visa first, once I got to Canada and can I bring family over with me on a Working visa

As you said 'children', I assumed that meant they weren't adults, but could well be wrong - if they are age 18 or over, then they could sponsor you for PR (although do note that the quota for this year has filled, so you'd need to wait until Jan 2015 to apply). So really it will depend on their age.

It doesn't look like it from what you've said (unless your children are adults as above). But have a read of the Wiki and see if any of those other routes apply to you - do you have a spouse, and if so, what does s/he do?

Yes, you can take your spouse and any dependent children with you. Do note though that your spouse would only be able to work in a few provinces, so that's something else to bear in mind.

My children in Canada are 18 and 21, my wife would also be coming over and would be working as a home carer for the elderly.

Aha, so they may be of use after all! In which case, look at parental sponsorship, although as I said this year's quota is full, but you could apply in January (you'll need to make sure you have it all ready to submit as soon as it reopens, the quota filled in a matter of days this year).

1. When the quota opens for parents, the OP would have to consider would the eldest be able to meet the LICO + 30% for the 3 previous years? Would have to been working since the age 18,.

I don't think my daughter would be able to sponser me as she's only been working the last 2 and a half year and to be honest, not on the greatest of wages. I think I will have to go through LMO, I have been in contact with a few companies and it looks like that's the way to go

Why not become a mercenary? They pay fairly well and you could live anywhere you want then.
