What are our chances?

Hi peeps, ok im so baffled and bewildered at all the immigration process, i just dont know where to start.I know my husband and i are going to find it difficult to get in because we dont hold qaulifications and im not a skilled worker,so the odds are against us before we begin it seems.I just dont know what route we should take, i doubt i can get a student visa to be trained as a nurse in canada because i dont even have A levels to get on a course here let alone Canada:( i dont want to repeat mylast post but in a nutshell my husband is self employed and i only work part time as a house keeper(no career but it fits in with the kids with regards to not needing childcare) we would be looking to go to canada and my husband continue being a self employed carpet fitter, once he is established he would be looking to train some one up and employ them to work along side him.even though iv looked into the possibilty of nursing if im honest id rather have an evening partime job just as i do here because i dont want to get childcare for our 3 children.I love the fact im home to greet the kids when there home from school ect... if we did get to canada i think it would be a big enough change as it is with out me being absent from home studying/training ect...., so truthfully what can we do?is there any other skill i could gain which would enable us to get to canada easier? or am i just dreaming of the impossible for us unless i kick myself up the dairy-air and force my self to get into something like nursing? any opinions are mucho appreciated thankyou :)

You/your husband need to get paper qualifications - without these your chances of even obtaining a work permit (let alone a PR Visa) are virtually nil

Still, check into the Provincial Nominee programs: if you can find a company willing to hire you, or set up your own business, they're generally much easier to qualify for than the standard skilled worker route.

Thanks for speedy reply, more than willing to get (or try to  ) get qualifications even if it takes us 5 years, but what??? this is where i kick myself for having a family too early instead of staying on at college, what certificates are we looking at here? i read and read and read the cic web site and others but theres so much to take in, what i need is a list of -you need this ,this and this to get that  , im so niave i thought because my husband wants to remain self employed and train some one and employ them that we'd have a better chance because its putting something back into the economy. How wrong was i

There certainly are options for self-employed workers, so it's worth investigating them. You might want to talk to an immigration expert to see whether you'd be able to qualify and if so how.

Sorry to be a pest just one last thing, did the cic test the other night and didnt quite make the points but just re did the test , it seems if my hubby has arranged employment we get the points,Hmmm now then does this mean we have a chance or not? or do we still need more qualifications? if he gets skilled worker can our children and i go on the back of that or will i need to get my own? sorry to ask these questions i have looked at past threads but cant find an answer in any of them, but then there are over 500 threads:p

Yes. But he will need a qualifying job offer.

Note that a qualifying job offer will also usually 'fast-track' you in London, so you're likely to get the visa faster.

if he gets skilled worker can our children and i go on the back of that
Yes.

Email/PM Andrew Miller, or post on the immigration forum. I believe he gives a free evaluation

Just wanted to say Hi and good luck - I know how you feel about not having qualifications etc - I got married at 19 and alway put my husbands career and further education 1st - he's now doing his dream job (Paramedic) and I'm working part-time as a office manager and have a 2 year old daughter. You do a fantasic job by just being there for your kids. Pity more of us arn't less selfish - I go to work because I don't want to be a full time mum - I love my daughter but wish I could give up the work but just don't want to! Well Done You!

Re: What are our chances?

We went to the Emigrate Show at Sandown last weekend and everyone involved in the sessions etc had obviously been briefed to promote Alberta at every opportunity - they are desperate for workers. Might be worth trying to secure a job offer there?

"They are so desperate for workers they can't even keep their coffee shops open past 3pm!" was one such comment from the Immigration people.

Hi Sarah,
You could contact Alberta UK Office in London and see what they can do to help you and hubby to find jobs and get work permits.
Your housekeeping skills can be put to good use in hotels, hospitals, offices
and etc. For your hubby's skills, they are needed in the building boom.

Do not regret about not getting your A levels, you are spending your
precious time in raising your children right and that surpasses any educational
trainings you are missing out now.
With online learning you can always upgrade your education and for pay
back time, your children can help you with your assignments:lol:
Good luck,
Yoong

Re: What are our chances?

Lol thanks Yoong, the boys moan having to do there own home work not sure it would go down to well if i had them helping me for a change lol.You know im not regretting too much about not having A levels , infact if it wasnt for us thinking about moving to canada i dont think i would have thought about it at all.Its only because having them would have helped in the application process that i now think 'oops should have done that'.But hey iv got 3 lovely kids (well most of the time they are) we have bought a nice house and i guess im lucky that finacially i have been able to be a stay at home mum for as long as i have, but as the boys get older i find us stay at home mums are left with the dregs of jobs, you know the ones that dont require qualifications :( the jobs that no one else wants to do Humfff. To me my house keeping job is some thing that works around my family untill they are old enough to look after them selves during the school holidays,if only there were qualifications for what us stay at home mums do im sure id have a PHD by now ;)
