Re: What is a good relocation package for Vancouver?
The problem for this guy is knowing what a half decent salary is. I earn about £58k in the uk but according to the labour market website the average for my job (it manager) is about $65k which according to you guys in not a great deal.
Just using the low conversion rate it should be $87 and thats a hell of a difference. My advice pusj for all you can get:fingerscrossed: |

Re: What is a good relocation package for Vancouver?
[QUOTE=JYC;8593177]Hi,
I have been asked by my employer whether I would like to relocate to Vancouver. This would mean moving my wife and baby with me and we would loose my wife's pay. They have offered to pay for moving, a furniture bonus and flights. Is this a good relocation package and should I accept my wage x exchange currency (abt$66K) or should I ask for relocation allowance ontop? I will be grateful for any help![/QUOTE That salary for a family of 3 isn't that great in Vancouver. For one person it would be ok. The cost of many things are cheaper than the UK but what gets you in Vancouver is rent and real estate. Also I've read on this forum of companies not honouring commitments once the employee has arrived in Canada. |

You really need to read the thread "Poor bus driver" just to give you an idea of what the future may hold ! its a real eye opener:thumbdown:

Yes, a temporary work permit always carries risks, but some moves are more risky than others. In this case the OP would be advised to negotiate a parachute clause in case things go wrong, but they are being asked to move so are in a far stringer negotiating position than the bus drivers. Not every work permit ends up that way, many turn out pretty well;) |

@canadian_bacon_boy:
not quite sure what you mean by <IT manager>. but let's assume you've got a BA in business or IT/MIS and about 8-12 years relevant working experience. a realistic salary in toronto for this position would be somewhere between CAD85K-125K (in vancouver maybe 65K-105K). needless to say that you might start a little bit lower as a new immigrant and to find a IT position in vancouver is more than difficult... andy |
