What Do You Do At Weekends?

Just trying to get an idea on how folk in different provinces spend there leisure time.

Where do you live? What sort of things do you do on weekends, both summer and winter?

Do you enjoy your leisure time? And are there other things you would like to do but can't because of money or time constraints, or because activities you enjoy are not available in your area? Thanks.

Well, in the winter in winnipeg, life tends to revolve around the kids programs and birthday partys, so skating program on sunday oct-feb, then tennis. on nice days we'll be down at the forks for a bit of outdoor skating, tobogganing, snowboardng. But add to this the odd birthday party and dont forget open housing on a sunday

We may need to head to the mall, and then maybe lunch or dinner out.

If the weather is good (above -15) we'll be heading to the ski hill for the day. But often weeks are spent without heading out of the city.

In the summer the park is a big draw, for cycling and wandering round the zoo - until june when the mozzies arrive - then we are mostly indoors!

Theres the classic car cruise from may to sept on a sunday evening.

So theres quite a bit to do before you even look at the cultural scene

Travel from winnipeg to anywhere seems hugely expensive and/or time consuming

Saturday.

Get up about 9am, read the paper drinking several cups of tea, cook a fry up for the family. Leave the house about 12, go to the mall, do some food shopping, buy a few bits here and there. Come home about 4, take dog for 1hr walk, start cooking dinner, eat dinner, relax with the kids, put kids to bed, watch TV, go to bed.

Sunday
Pretty much the same but no shopping, this time of year we go ice skating in the afternoon instead.

Pretty much the same as I do every other day. Oh the joys of retirement and being young and healthy enough to do stuff. I count my blessings !

i like the sounds of this one. i think people focus too much sometimes on, " its the weekend! we must do SOMETHING!!"
sat, lie in, walk dog, catch footy highlights/final score, shopping/lunch out. DVD in, or out at friends, eat and drink.
sun, kids footy first thing, not much else till early evening when i play my game.
in the summer we would be out more at either one of the festivals, on our bikes with the dog, or in the garden.
winter, indoors more but skiing at least once all day on the weekend.

I alternate between weekends when I have my autistic child and ones when I don't. On the former I take her horseback riding, swimming, stuff like that. I cook formal meals and bully her into eating properly.

On the ones when I do not, I go out with young women and introduce them to things they come to enjoy.

Work, mow the lawn, garden, do stuff round the house, go for walks, next year we will have a boat to take out, maybe visit friends. We seem to spend more time doing chores around the house and garden than we did in the UK. Probably because the garden is much much bigger.

Friday night curry. Saturday morning grocery shopping and taking the vast number of empties back to the Beer Store. Saturday afternoon paying homage at the Church of Canadian Tire/Home Depot/Lowes and fixing this or that. Depending on the season, perhaps a bit of lawn mowing or leaf raking.

Saturday evening, building up the empties for next week.

Sundays synagogue. It's always very quiet for some reason.

Time is usually split between Toronto, Oakville (home) and St Catharine's (family).

Spring and summer usually finds us in Toronto sailing on our boat, typically over to the Toronto Islands. We're also out most Thursday evenings with club sailing races.
Maybe take in a Jay's home game. The odd weekend away camping up at Killbear provincial park.

Fall and Winter we're usually at home, or down in St Catharine's. Might also be found up at Glen Eden or Mount St Louis / Moonstone skiing, well, in my case attempting to ski.

All year round we'll be walking the hound on the various trails.

Cherry Coke
British Baked Beans (Branston)
Tetley British Blend Tea Bags
+ others that don't spring to mind

And stuff that is massively cheaper, for example, gallon of milk for $1.50, dozen eggs for 99c!

My leisure time here is nice and seriously different to anything I did in the London, UK. My life in London was incredibly social, and I basically spent my entire weekend either in a gym or at a pub, bistro, wine bar, lovely restaurant. Which wasnt a bad thing but I was looking for adventure.

I am here in Calgary Alberta. I spend most weekends, catching up with people and heading to the mountains. This weekend I am flying solo and so far I have met up with a couple of buddies for lunch. Tomorrow I intend to head into the mountains and hike. It is currently a shoulder season, so very difficult to know what activity is best to do. You can still hike, but it does depend on the snow pack out in the mountains. Some of the mountain ski resort opened today at reduced capacity, so it is possible to ski.

Most of my winter weekends are spent skiing at one of the resorts that Alberta/BC/USA has to offer. Skiing was a big reason why we came here.

The summers, weather dependant are just great. It can be really warm here in Alberta, but also quiet stormy. This past late september we saw temperatures of 33.2 degrees, yet less than 21 days later it was -10 or lower.

Summers are spent hiking, mountain biking, trail riding, fishing or canoeing, the province has a huge amount to offer.

Catch up on house work, cleaning, washing etc etc, then relax in front of TV. Now during the week is a different kettle of fish. We go fishing, crabbing, walking and driving round the island to all the places that get busy at weekends....yep another couple of retirees.

Re: What Do You Do At Weekends?

....there is absolutely nothing what so ever to do at the weekends here in Canada, so most of us expats just pass the time by "hanging out" on internet forums.
