What do you dislike about living in Ontario?

What are the top 5 things you dislike about life in Ontario?

Exclusions - the price of cheese and wine, coz I'd buy them anyway :drinkingwine:

Would/will any of those 5 things see you leaving Canada eventually, or moving to a different province?

Re: What do you dislike about living in Ontario?

I don't live there any longer, and I don't have 5 things as I wasn't there long enough but:

1) It was a little too cold for my liking in the winter.

2) It was a little too humid in the late summer I lived there. (Moved late in the summer)

3) Milk came in bags for some weird reason.

If it had worked out there, I probably would have stayed though, bigger province, more choices, more stuff to do, hardly ever bored, better transportation system compared to BC, Via Rail actually has multiple per day train routes, people were friendlier/easier to make friends.

  1. They metrified the milk but didn't retrofit the jugs so now the plastic bag sags over the side of the jug and milk spills everywhere.
  2. Terrible driving is the norm.
  3. Life is highly regulated, permits and licenses are needed for every activity known to mankind. Lots of taxes and fees are involved.
  4. Winter is too long.
  5. The buildings are ugly and squished together.
  6. There's no ocean.
I expect 6 will be the reason for leaving.

I have few dislikes and no deal-breakers about living in Ontario. Working is another matter. Wee bit too hot and humid at times in summer, but I can live with that. Wish the shinny season was longer. Wish there was more social (non-league) cricket. Wish there were more twisties for scratching. Erm... price of cheese and wine?

1] too hot in the summer 2] too cold/slushy in the winter 3] too much traffic in southern Ontario 4] too far to drive [and point 3] to get to the more isolated parts of Canada 5] too many mosquitos/black flies

I've grown up here.

-I hate the winter. 7 months of shit weather, 2.5 months of decent, and only 2 months of "proper" summer, and even that doesn't get that hot, coming from the Med.

-Not enough sunlight

-Most people put up too much of a front, everything is about fake small talk with them, and when you try to discuss something of relevance (politics, lifestyle choices, higher education, world issues, travel, etc) they sway it back because they get uncomfortable

-The obsession with hockey/the toronto maple leafs

-There is no distinct culture

-the lakewater is cold, gross and muddy 100% of the time, and almost every native Ontarian thinks its just "awesome". After having seen/swam in the Mediterranean sea and the Caribbean sea, I won't go near it.

The weather will likely be my reason to leave. I just can't stand the winter months, and as of late we don't even get rewarded with proper hot days where we can enjoy the pool and hang out outside. I actually really enjoy temperatures of about 26c-35c and we don't get that here very often.

It's attractive in some ways, though I seem to fund the town of Blind River with speeding ticket money, but not quite the same thing.

1/ Lack of choice in job market

2/ Crap wages

3/ Provincial (effects the first two)

4/ People are provincial minded

5/ Shit driving

Outside of all that I don't mind the place. The winters aren't too bad when you live in Toronto and I like the snowboarding.

That depends on what you're comparing it to. Toronto gets over 2000 hours of sunshine per year. London (UK) gets under 1500 hours of sunshine per year. Toronto beats Hastings and Eastbourne who both claim to be the sunniest places in the UK.

Valletta, of course, which has 2957 hours per year.
