What fords are you driving?(i know ones a stang)
We have a 2014 F150 which has heated+air con seats with multiple temps, and a 2015 lincoln mkc which has the above and a heated steering wheel.

Is it a necessity? No. Does it make driving in the car at 7am when its -10 out alot more pleasurable? Most definitely.

I hate heated seats, never found car seats to really be cold to begin with as long as they were cloth and not leather but leather seats suck in summer so never would get them myself.

I'd take a heated steering wheel though as I don't wear gloves.

Even when I lived in Edmonton, can't say cold seats were an issue, but cold steering wheels were.

Not a lot of vehicles come with heated seats standard. A luxury at best and certainly not a necessity.
Any car can have heated seats for about $500-600

But nice as they are, it was primarily a cheap dig at Reginas climate.

Still, having paid for them in my Civic, I wouldnt want to be without them

Haven't had a chance to try the heated seats in the Forester, but given how slowly these new, more efficient engines warm up the car, I'm sure it will be nice to have. Not so sure about the heated wipers.
Heated wipers are awesome in freezing rain. Its not really the wiper thats heated, its the base of the windscreen.

Come back and tell us again in February

Besides, Barbecuing in Canada is no indication of the weather conditions. We've all cleared snow in order to get to the grill haven't we?

Cheaper than that if you get the plug in ones that sit on top of the seats. You just have to remember to unplug to avoid a flat battery

This is a regular part of my snow clearing pattern. Back pathway, garage steps, back steps, long curved shot along the deck to the bbq.

Been out there grilling at -20!

Save yourself any hassle and go to Capital auto mall in the north end , grab a SUV on zero % and be done with it . Although I do have a nice 2008 Grand Cherokee with very low miles going for $cdn 18000 if you fancy one .

Prior to living permanently in Canada, we had been 'convinced' that we'd need an SUV or a Crossover and spent many happy hours contemplating all the choices.

I now have a two door Hyundai Accent that I've had for two years, and have been so impressed that, now needing another car, I've just gone and bought a four door version of the same.

I work with a man who commutes daily from Saint John and he is in a lovely shiny Fiat 500... he's never been late for work, and yes we get lots of snow here.

Buy the car that you like best, and the very best snow tyres

Exactly. So long as you primarily drive on paved roads having a Chelsea tractor just costs more and makes you look silly.

+1

I did the SUV thing when I first arrived, but once I had build up a bit of confidence with dealing with the conditions I clued into the fact that it was expensive to run and had terrible handling due to its weight and high center of gravity. plus being built on a truck suspension it wasnt even all that comfortable.
